I'm posting these pics here so I can link them to another thread and avoid sidetracking the other thread's theme. :)

This is a scrap yard with a "imagineered" car shredder turning piles of junk autos into pieces to load into gons. Some day I'll upgrade the crane and loader which were originally bright orange toys I found at my local grocery store. The cars are pieces of aluminum foil that were formed by wrapping them around one model car.

I need to rust and dirty things up a lot more, I think.

Yikes! Great series of shots and story Wayne! Yeah, I gotta dirty up the yard, add more dirt ground cover, some weeds, trash, and weather the car crusher more. I'm working on another part of the layout right now but I'll post an update of a dirtier scrap yard sometime soon. :)

Canada, eh?
Doc....Was that story ever "wrapped up"..? Great tale..!!

Thanks, Gus. I had an ending planned for it, but it just seemed kinda hokey, so I let it die. Then, of course, as time passed, I forgot about it. I have some more photos somewhere, mostly of the wrecked truck in a MoW gondola. If I can come up with a more believeable ending, I'll finish the tale.

Nice work, I love the foil thing. I did it with my son some time back because he's a monster truck fan. Swiping the idea from NASCAR candy, I'd make up a batch of cars and he had a blast crushing them.

That scrapper is a pretty convincing piece of work, too.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Here's a stellar example of a major scrapyard, along with a metal shredder/ferrous materials sorter.

Included in the links is also a cool Machine Works structure too. Check out the rows of old boxcars along the fence line, make sure to view this in "birds eye" mode.

Here's a small rail served junkyard, look at all the rusted metal!
