just purchased a GP 38-2 athearn ready to roll model in CN paint #4713 SGT stripes paint
here are my questions,
1) does ready to roll models not have directional lighting? my model has a light no matter what direction the cab lights up.

2) is this model close to a CN gp38-2 ?

I run Dc power not ready for DCC yet.
thanks

Canada, eh?
I don't know what the model looks like, but here are some links to a few proto pictures:

I'm guessing that the model doesn't have those snow shields over the air intakes behind the cab, but those are easy to add using sheet styrene.

The thing with Athearn RTRs is that most if not all of the geeps were either from an older run or were just re-runs of old designs. Thats why they don't have directional headlights or DCC plug.

Yeah, as far as i can tell, the GPs don't have directional lighting, but the others do. I might check though. I think my GP38-2 actually has directional lighting, but maybe i'm crazy, lol.

all my other RTRs had directional lighting.

It probably doesn't. I have a GP38-2 that was a limited edition run back in 2006. It was basically a blue box model that's been improved a bit.

My GP38s from this year do not have directional microbulbs or DCC plug and play ready.

The RTR GP35 and GP40X DO have directional microbulbs and are DCC plug and play ready.

I think Athearn is only re-running the old RTR GP38s instead of retooling them (which would cost them more money)

My SD50 is a lot older than my GP38-2, and it is dcc ready and wired for directional lighting with microbulbs
