Good evening, I have a small project rolling around in my head, but it will have to wait till the train show season starts. I have a GP38 DT&I, they are orange, sooo I'm thinking the DT&I cars I have been buying one by one could have a orange caboose. A cheap Lionel set caboose would be an easy do. Thats enough thinking not good for the ole head to think too much...TTFN...S.J.

Good morning.

It's 62 and partly cloudy. The high is expected to be around 80 and it will be partly cloudy.

Most of yesterday was taken up with getting started on cutting up the willow that fell on my parent's island bridge. Man, that tree's big! We made a cut through the middle of it. It's just under two feet thick there. We also cut off several of the large branches. It's gonna be slow going. I cut down the tops of two old Mantua flatcars last night to make them, well, more flat. I leveled off the tops with wallboard joint compound. Later I'll put scribed paper over them and paint it to look like wood decking.

Good morning folks

61 F was the temperature as I hit the pavement this morning. High today will be 78 F.

I have one of those crazy days in store. I have to run out into the field and take a look at project under construction to make sure that a bridge parapet is not going to cause a problem with vehicles exiting a side road near the bridge in response to a letter from a State Senator. I then have to leave early so I get ready for our Cub Scout Welcome Back Night and Open House.

Last night was an up and down night. My son’s football team is continuing its downward spiral. I found out that they did not score again in Saturday’s game. Their scoreless streak is now 12 quarters. Of course maybe I should rephrase it and say his former team. He was finally moved down to the JV squad where I wanted him. He wasn’t playing or practicing, so why was he on the Varsity squad? Last night was a prime example. They had a scrimmage and the coaches played the same 13 kids on offense who have not scored and again they were shut out. The offense ran something like 50 plays with no substitutions except for running backs bringing in the plays. My son played a total of 10 plays on defense and basically stood around for the last hour doing nothing. Tomorrow will be his first practice with the JV. He was upset at first but after he thought about it he was glad that he now away from the “Losers” that he has had to deal with the last two years.

I hope everybody has a good day.

S.J. I believe if you hunt on ebay you will find ( I believe it is Rio grande) orange caboose they normally sell for less than $5.00 the big thing is how much someone wants to rip you off in shipping when it should be less than $6.00 to ship anywhere in us as it should not wiegh more than 2.0 LBS including packing and box.

Good morning.

It's 64 and partly cloudy here in the Sportsman's Paradise. The high today should be around 80 and it will be partly cloudy.

Most of yesterday was taken up with mowing the grass and moving the pieces of the cut-up willow tree. I counted the rings in the trunk and found that it had been there since 1941, about what I figured. As my parents nor myself need the wood we're dumping the pieces in the nearby marsh to rot. The ants have already found them to be of interest.

Good morning folks

The temperature was a crisp 59 F as I headed out to the traffic jams this morning. High today will be 79 F with sun.

I had a busy day yesterday. For work I had to drive 40 miles to take a look at a bridge under construction and determine if the new parapet was causing a problem. We had our Cub Scout Welcome Back Night and Bingo. It was a fun night. We had almost three quarters of our “old” scouts re-up and we had a couple of new scouts. Our Bingo went over great and the boys loved the prizes. Next week will be our big recruitment night with hopefully a good number of new scouts joining.

No modeling last night. My son and one his friends ran some trains. His friend brought over his new Bachmann Union Pacific SD-40-2 and they were running that.

I hope everybody has a good day.

I did more work on the Mantua flatcars today and they look a lot less toy-like. The 1st photo shows how they looked when I got them. The 2nd photo is how they looked after I cut the tops down and leveled them with wallboard joint compound and the 3rd photo is haow they look now. I still have to make the scribed paper decks for them. The decks will be painted a dark wood color and will be weathered appropriately.

We own it. Lake House, two boats [one I'm selling], jet ski and golf cart. He is buying back his John Deere lawn mower. Has 52 inch deck and gaps up yard. I will take his check and buy a John Deere with smaller deck and pocket $500. Later.

A quick HOWDY to all, not a very eventful day, took neighbor to the train station as she was going to Chicago to see her new granddaughter. I did not wait for the train as I would have had to pay for parking. And besides I can look at my trains. Tomorrow is Friday already boy they don't come around this fast during the winter, but have a good one...S.J.

Good morning.

It's 71 and clear. The high today is expected to be around 80 and it will be mostly cloudy. There's a small chance of isolated showers.

We still have part of the willow to clear out today. It's gonna be a little harder cutting up the lower part of the trunk as it's better than 24" across and the saw is only 20". Moving the pieces will be like Johnny Cash building his 'Hillbilly Cadillac", one piece at a time.

I have the old Atlas GP40 pulling a 16 car train around the layout. That seems to be it's limit.
