What have I been up to today? I was working on a caboose today. This is how it looked after I fitted it with a new frame, Athearn trucks, nickel-silver wheels and Kadee #5 couplers.

All I found on the old frame was 'Made in Slovenia', so I really have no idea what company made it.

After it made a trip through the paint shop it looks like this:

I also rebuilt another LS&W hopper today.

Jeffery I did a search on the do it yourself custom Dry transfers it is a company called Decal pro:cool: works with a laserjet printer and there are 19 color choices and reflective and metalic "foils" Just need to invest in some simple tools laser printer, laminator and a heat gun to make the decal and they used like an ordinary rub on dry transfers.:thumb:

Today is the 11th of September. Never forget! I'm a fire fighter and I'll never forget the significance of 9/11.

It's 77 and mostly clear. The high is expected to be around 90 and it will be mostly cloudy.

Yesterday I rebuilt an old Mehano caboose (probably sold under the AHM name) and a third LS&W Bachmann hopper. That leaves two Bachmann gondola bodies in the package I received earlier this week.

Today's Weather for:
Sundown, LA 71446-6114 9/11/2008

Heat Index: 82°F

Low: 77°F
Rain: 0.00"

Isolated showers were noted in the coastal waters of southwest Louisiana moving rapidly to the west.

Of the six car bodies that were sent to me, I've rebuilt 1 caboose, 3 hoppers and 2 gondolas. That's all six. The gondolas, unlike the other cars, are fitted with Talgo trucks. When I get suitable frames for them they will receive new trucks and body mounted couplers. For now, this is how they look:

Well...It seems we dodged a bullet down here. Ike will most likely plow into the Galveston/Houston area....I was hoping for landfall in the less populated areas above Corpus Christi...but the Houston area is gonna be a mess....

Just the usual run around today. I did get to talk trains for a couple minutes with a co-worker. Daughter got a big bump on her head at school playing "state tag". They have a big map of the US painted on a parking lot and the kids have to run to the right state before they get tagged out. She's fine, just a little bump of knowledge, I guess ;)

Looks good to me Jeffrey, did you paint it already?

Good morning.

It's 77 and mostly cloudy here with isolated showers. The high is expected to be in the mid 80's with a chance of thunderstorms.

I took some time yesterday to do the initial plaster pour on the new section of the layout. It was messy but as with most messy projects, a lot of fun. I went through one carton of plaster. I still have four more cartons in the closet.

Good morning folks

It was 68 F as I hit the streets. High today will be 78 F with some rain.

I did not make it here yesterday. My daughter wrote an essay for her school’s 9-11 remembrance ceremony and she was chosen to read the essay during the ceremony, so I spent the morning there. A video of the ceremony can be seen at: http://cbs3.com/video/?id=64406@kyw.dayport.com . She is the first one to read her essay right after the National Anthem.

When I finally got to work I had to go to a meeting with a State Representative, officials from a couple of townships, and local business owners regarding a bridge replacement project. The meeting was a rehash of things we have talked about for the last five years. We can’t legally do what they want and they just won’t accept it, so the project goes nowhere.

We then had my son’s football practice. I spoke with one of the coaches regarding my son’s playing time and whether he should be on Varsity or JV. I did not speak with the head coach since he was not there but one of the assistants that my son likes. Later in the practice he spoke with the head coach and both spoke with my son. Right now my son wants to wait and see if they come through on the things they told him before he decides. Of course I wanted to talk to the coaches again but we had to leave early.

We left early because we attended a local 9-11 ceremony with scouts from the surrounding area. It was a nice candlelight service at a local veterans’ park. I was pleased to see the number of scouts (over a 100) in attendance. Our pack had 7 scouts which is a third of the pack.

This weekend will be another crazy one. Saturday we have a birthday party to go to and a football game. I am not sure if we will make the football game. Sunday is up in the air right now although I know I have some yard work to do.

I need to straighten some things out on the layout and the workbench. If all goes well maybe we will run some trains.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Morning all. Off to County Environmental Services Committee meeting. Cloudy and spitting some rain. Got a free utility trailer several years ago. Just a short frame, axle, tongue and wheels. Took it to a guy here in town and he welded on some more frame to may a 5X6 frame. Now I will put decking boards on it for a deck. Take it to lake house for spare trailer. Will have less than $200 in it. Well, prayers for the Texicans. Hope the storm falls apart like Hanna did for us. Later.

Looking good Jeffrey and CSX! Go go go! Took today off to get stuff done and basically I've been a "fox on the run" since 6:50 this AM. I need a nap! Signed up for 6 hours of OT tomorrow. No train news, but I am working up my plans for after the basement is finished. Have a good afternoon/evening!
