Tonight I stopped at the LHS and bought a MRC express system (Sorry iis612), but it was marked down. I also bought a bag of trees, and a Walthers classic kit, WC 100 ton hopper. Pics will come soon! But that was a fun trip!

Kevin, CONGRATS on the MRC Prodigy Express:thumb: , hey, thats what i am currently using, and i am 110% HAPPY with it:mrgreen: . that system does EVERYTHING i want it to do...though i bought a Prodigy Advance cab, the Advance cab enables you to do so much more:winki: . when i get started on my Larger layout i will upgrade to the PA2 system, but Express is fine for smaller layouts.

I cant wait to see the pics of your new trees & WC hopper:thumb::mrgreen:

Well sorry to inform you, but you WILL HAVE TO WAIT Deano. Patience is a virtue, and judging by some of you detail/weathering work, you have it.

And I commend you for buying at the LHS rather than order online - way to suport your local business!

Cool, that's the system I've got. I'm looking forward to getting to use it for more than confirming on a little test track that I'm all thumbs at DCC installs. I didn't realize that the advanced cab would work with it, but I guess most of the brains are in the cab anyway.

Well tonight I tried the system with one of my Athearn SD45T-2, on a piece of track upstairs in the ac, where I also built the walthers car (leaving out the hatch doors, there too small, even for my 16 year old self to put on). But the car is AWESOME, and the DCC set, is GREAT, and the trees, I havent touched, but I already have a bunch of them and I know I like them already.

Id love to post pictures but the camera is dowmstairs ane the stuff is upstairs like me, in the air conditioning, so Im not in a mood to go down right no, guess youll have to wait one more day Deano!

Are you saying that hooking a PA (or PA2) throttle add-on to a PE system gives the advanced features? That you can now read CVs as well as write them?

I'm just confirming that you did not buy a PA system, but just a throttle, and got the advanced features of the PA. If true, that is really a good feature for MRC.

enquiring minds would like to know

the PA throttle DOES WORK WITH the express system, thats what i use:thumb: .
Heres the thing, i bought myself the PE for my layout because its small, i bought the PA with two PA controllers for my dads layout, i took one of the PA controllers and use with my PE, and i gave dad my PE controller to use as "cab #2" on his layout. so what i am saying is, the throttles/controllers for BOTH of those systems ARE COMPATIBLE:thumb:

the PA controller used on the PE system basically turns your PE system into a "low powered" PA, ANYTHING you can do on a PA, you will be able to do on the PE, if you use the PA controller.

using a PE controller on a PA is fine if you use it as "cab#2" , the PE controller on PA still just does what a PE controller does...not much.

as for the PA2 throttle working with the express system,...i couldn't tell you if it is compatible, i haven't tried it:119: , and i am sorry, but i don't want to second guess that one:winki: .

Thanks for the quick response.

I would have expected the throttles to be compatible. The real question is which feature set do you get when a PA/PA2 is used with an Express System? Do you get the Advance/Advance2 features, or is it dumbed down to the Express feature set? Same question in reverse - if you connect your Express throttle to your Dad's PA, can you now read back CVs like a PA can?

Again, thanks for the quick response.

i just edited my last post, that will answer some of your questions, but again, i DONT have the PA2, so i cant say what would happen using that systems parts, sorry:eek:ops: .

That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. Getting a low powered 2 throttle PA for the price of a PE and a PA throttle. I am almost positive the same thing will happen with a PA2 throttle.

Thanks again. This definitely puts an MRC system in the running, especially given the price of a PE system plus PA throttle. Only thing missing from the MRC systems is a computer interface.

By the way, you can upgrade the power on a PE for about $25 from MRC.
