He's busy with his dissertation. And writing that tutorial for everyone. Though he hasn't said anything about quitting.

I was starting to think about the size. i was thinking it would be cool to have it to scale with the 3 foot Galactica.I found this scale picture but i have a problem with it. The dorsal guns are the same guns of Galactica. in this picture the G's guns are a good bit smaller than Cygnus. which should make the Cygnus smaller still.

also i have this shot, which shows barely enough room for a shuttle on the flight deck. which would make the Cygnus even smaller.

what do yall think?

Yes nothing. Paragon used the multiple layers with a certain success for his models.
This Cygnus really looks like a very fine ship, so I wish you a rapid progress on this project. I just can't wait to build it

i looked at that but i think there would be too many layers. i have made a simple box shape for the turrets and the builder can use tubes to replace the barrells if they want. there is like 18 guns so all those layers could be very time consuming and tedious. unfortunately all progress is stopped till i hear back from Theo and Backstept. if i cant get hi rez orthos i might be able to make do with whats available. but i also am waiting for backstept's blessing. if i dont get that.....well i might be the only one building it.

Theo part of the problen on those orthos is the lighting he used to make them.parts of the differnt views are in shadow. with the low resolution trying to lighten them will probably degrade the image even more. i can probably make them work but id like to sse if he can produce something of better quality first. and more importantly id like to know hes ok with the project.

i really appreciate you efforts.

3D sort of

hey guys, i have a sorta dilema. should I leave the gun turrets in the texture, or should I figure a way to do them in 3d?

Hey nothing, I vote for at least a single layer approach like I did for the Galactica. Even a single layer shape glued on the surface gives a hint of 3D and adds to the model. A single layer base, with a couple tiny parts to layer on top makes it even better and adds a challenge for those so inclined to work with teeny tiny parts.

Go for it!

I got a massage from Backstept,

hey, Boss
I tried to get some orthos done, but my computer kept overheating . . . gotta love summer

It's not what we hoped for but he is working on it:confused:

I'll guess he has a old computer just like me, I can't even work with AutoCAD-2008 on mine.
But that is going to change in a few weeks, I'm turning my Bucket in for a Beast!

Seriously, it's ready!

While you may find it hard to believe, after all the delays, and the delays following the other delays that delayed things first, the Galactica, and the instructions are done. :thumb:

I have forwarded the instructions and the first set of files to Chris for uploading. They should be available soon, if not already. I have not yet sent Chris all the files for the 3 foot version, but he has all the files for the 1.5 foot version and the assembly instructions. I'll send the rest of the files very soon. Right now I need to finish invoicing my customers so I can get some money in the bank.

Oh yeah, and the files I've sent so far are for the "no lines" versions. nothing also prepared "with lines" versions for the bridge and rear sections. I'll send those to Chris later this week. The mid sections I did with lightly colored lines. If anyone wants a version with darker lines, or completely without lines, let me know and I'll get it made.

A Happy (very belated) New Year from SJ and nothing!
