A soggy good morning from the heartlands, the rain just will not stop and several tornadoes south of us last night, about 40 miles. Tonight will be a repeat, ugg. All of the crops have been planted and are doing well except now we are seeing ponding in the fields and it's almost too late to replant.

One hundred and sixty one of Iowa's finest are deploying tonight for Oklahoma and Iraq, for most it's their 3rd deployment to the sandbox. With our prayers they will all come home safely in one year, thank goodness for our soldiers who keep us free and safe.

Morning. Hot. Heat index 105+. Neighbor [brain damaged] is screaming since yesterday afternoon. Had to call PD at midnight to check him out. The heat [he will not run A/C] is getting to him. Out to spray and mow. Later

BTW: a little Hatter is on the way. :thumb: Let us know when it gets here.

Good morning all,

Chief, Hope you have recovered from the festivities. Sounds like that neighbor needs professional help.

John, Hope the test come out OK.

Partly sunny here after overnight rain. Sprayed the roses, which were in bad need of it. Getting warm, probably make the 80s today.

Jeffrey
, Nice weathering job.

Dennis, That HO loop sounds like a good idea. I was going to add an On30 loop to my layout but never found a way to do it without major renovations.

Planted a few more trees on the mountain.

That was done with black acrylic paint and alcohol.

And I thought that, for such creativity, you had to stay sober.

Greetings all.

A very hot day here, so I attacked the garden (garden? weed-plot!) with shears.

I'm putting up a shelf over my workbench, so I can reach paints, small tools etc. without exerting myself. (Not that I ever do.)

GOOD EVENING ALL
Well we got hot too its 88 right now. We kept the house closed up and the temp stayed in the 70s until it reached 78 around 6pm and I turned on the a/c for the first time this year. Thats not enitrely true I did run it a few minutes the other day to see if it was in working order. It was. Rain stayed north of us so I got the grass cut but no trains today....S.J.

Prayers for those men and women, Jon.

Jeffrey, nice pics and good work. I really like that night shot alot!

Belated Happy Birthday to Jean F.!

Found a scrap guy who will pick up old washer for free, so that project is almost completely done. Just need to work on Saturday and it is paid for in the clear, even after they cut out a big chunk of free money for the Chief ;-)

Good luck on the little Hatter, we'll soon have another generation going on the caboose pot!

Hey John B - don't worry about Heeland Coos, I'm going to get some special modeling goop and redo a couple of these "American" cows. Good luck on hour diabetes tests and keep us posted! Stop over and grab a root beer any time - if you want, I'll pick you up in the Tardis!

Good morning folks

It was an ugly 64 F as I headed down the road this morning. It will be getting uglier with a high of 85 F. We are now under a Excessive Heat Warning as highs will be in high nineties for the weekend.

I will be camping with my son’s Cub Scout pack this weekend. Of course the high temperature for Saturday will be 95 F which is the highest it has been all year. We will be sweating. We are already altering our schedule by moving some of the more physical activities into the morning instead of the afternoon.

We will be in a tent this year. Last year we stayed in the bunk house. Again we had temperatures in the high nineties last year. The bunk house had been closed up all week before our arrival and was ungodly hot when we got there. Since it was shaped like a ship it had small windows. At night we had the choice of suffocating in the stifling heat or leaving the doors open and dealing with the bugs which were in huge numbers because we were next to a lake. On Saturday night the camp’s water pump broke and we had no running water or bathroom facilities. When we were given the option to leave early we took it.

Since we knew the heat could be bad we have tried to plan for it this year. Since we have electricity we told people to bring fans. We will have plenty of water on hand and some of activities on Saturday are meant to get people wet. The big problem with last year was that there was no planning and no contingencies to handle the heat, thus it was a very unpleasant experience for many folks. The previous leadership was clueless on how to arrange anything. The former Cubmaster passed everything off onto the Assistant Cubmaster. All she did was complain about how busy she was, but when people would offer to help she would say she had it under control. Of course she didn’t and things that were supposed to get done did not. Also many people think she was using the camping trip last year as a free vacation for her family. When the water pump broke she was one of only three people who wanted to stay. Worst off I found out that none of the leaders last year had the required training for camping and we should not have been camping because of that. Sorry for the rant but we inherited this trip from the former leadership. It has been stressful for us to get things set-up since we were left with no information about what to do by the former leaders. Basically we have been making it up as we have been going along.

Next year’s camping will be different as we will do it as part of a Council sponsored resident camp. We will not being going it alone as a pack.

The A/C in the office is not working right now. It is 78 F in here now. The temperature has climbed 4 degrees since I got in. We can not open the windows. This is beginning to look like a short day.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning from a sunny and very humid Chicago where I took one of the kid's scooters to zip to work - you might remember those 'Razor' scooters of a few years back - this was gathering dust in the garage - as I settle in with my first cuppa joe, I'm thinking why did I want to zip to work ;)
I'll try it out in the park at lunchtime...

Finished a good book by a fireman/driver on the Southern - no, not that Southern, the real one that used to be in the south of England.

I've been out working with my father this morning. He was cutting down tree branches and small bushes and I'd come along behind with a tractor and trailer and load them up. We had to stop just before nine. It was starting to get too hot to keep up that kind of work.
