The brigde crew sufferesd some serious delays, and will now be getting "back on track" and the bridge should soon be up. The supports are the last step of the process. Ill head down and take some pics of the crews progress later on if I get the time.

I picked this guy up at the hobby shop today, I coudnt say no to it beacuse its the DMIR's sister route, and it was only $6.

So I made it down to take a peek, A LOT was going on, the final digging was being done for the supports, and I got to see one being placed, I also imagined what the whole bridge would look like when done. When the workers left, I went done to get a closer look, and a welder showed up to some more work. He was cool about it and let me stay.

Here are a few pics of one that I finished. It has the wrong folliage color, but other than that and the fact that is wasnt painted first ( I just wanted to see how it would work) it blends in nicely, and there will be more trees in font of it, I cant wait to see this section when it is done. Acctually that whole layot for that matter. But that is still months and lotsa $$$$$$ away.

One thing that stands out as missing is birch trees. Northern Minnesota is basically pine trees and white-barked (with black spots) birch trees mixed together. Both of those trees grow quickly and are the first to take over an area that has been logged.

They are a big part of Northern MN. I still havent found a good way to model generic birch trees cheaply.

So the north pier is cemented in with sheetrock spackling, which should be dry by tuesday. It ended up being buried deeper than I planned but it worked. The South pier will be done tomorrow. The bridge can than be glued in place, and scenery van be finished. Here are some pics. I laid a dowel across the span, and while the piers are set, I make sure the bridge stays level with the dowel. Its coming along.

Here is another scene I am working on. Its an abandoned track outside the taconite plant, with an old junked ore car on it.

Love the way you stage your photo's!

As I was watching them I started msuing on getting kids interested in trains again. Maybe if we tell them it is like SIMS but you can pick up the parts and move them around it might grab them... I dunno... my 50year old brain sometimes drifts.

Anyhow, great pictures and thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys!

Buzzee, so far I have had no problems with it, when its real hot, we run the dehumidifier, man, I swear, at times it pulls out a gallon of water everyother hour it seems, but it EXPENSIVE to run! I think I may try yto rig a fan up into one of the windows.

Well Ive been gone for a week (fishing trip) and managed to get in one post from a laptop, but other than that Ive finally cought up on most threads.

Yesterday, I "cemented in the other bridge support, but I added gray to the mix, and it looks like real concrete. Pretty soon Ill be able to do the river scenery, which Ive anticipated for quite some time. But our Water heater broke before we left, (as I said in another thread) and we installed it ourselves so the basement is quite cluttered from the project. And my other hbby, woodworking, is wreaking havoc on the scenery in place, so Im putting in a plastic wall. Pretty soon I will be able to get back into full throttle train work, but the summer heat means I cant spend as much time down there. Pics of progress soon to come, once I do some picture worthy progress.

Picture worthy progress!

I painted the riverbed! I might sand it lightly when dry to tone it down. But so far it looks like it will work.

Tonight I sceniced the other side of the bridge, and, opened the flood gates and got the river flowing. For the WS realistic water, I made hot gue dams on both sides of the river.on On the left side of the vally, its supposed to be a concrete wall under the first bridge section. It will look better after the scenery on the higher level is built. Please comment! I like to hear advice.
