Yellow Tachikoma Matsukei Building Machine

Ciao to everyone!
I wanted to show you my last built...

I modded a Blue Tachikoma model by Hee (it's 3pages, nice and easy to build)
to have a Yellow Tachikoma Matsukei Construction Machine...
I'm not skilled at all with e-design  and it costed to me manymany hours in GIMP, but finally I'm satisfied enought to show it.

What do you think about it?

I wanted to build the 'hands' telescopic as in the anime so I used painted toothpicks; to make them more 'realistic' (in the .pdo they are a little 'flat') I 'rolled' them around little strips of gray cardboard and scratchbuilt a little cylinder for the right and a trunked cone for the left hand...

I also modded its 'mouth' (in the show it's a little cannon) 'cause weapons were dismantled for its new civilian purpose.

I wish to share it with you but I don't know if in this forum's rules it's allowed to give a modded papercraft (even if it's a free one) so maybe someone can tell me...(or, even better, how to contact Hee to ask permission...)

Update:
In designer's blog (BTW the name is サトウトモヲ) I discovered he already did a Yellow one! With mine they look like twins! He also made a Red one! Beautyful!

If you want to take a look to the templates or even to build it you can take it here(if the designer or a modder will not agree I'll delete it):

If someone decide to build it, please post some pics in this thread, I'll be very pleased!

Soaring

Yay! Nice job Palmer, however, next time you mod you should ask the designer :D
Aside from that, you did an excellent job on this!

Thank you Soaring!
I wanted to ask his permission to share my mod with others
(I don't think you need designer's permission when you mod just for yourself! Or not?!?) but I don't find his e-adress on web and his site was offline!

Nice. I so want one. If memory serves, there's another thread in here somewhere, in which the designer states the blue Tachikoma is no longer available. Dunno if he'd care about mods, though.

Found the link to the designer's page on page 2 of this forum, titled " Tachikomaaaa!!! ". The link to the designer is dead, so I don't think you'll be able to get his permission to distribute. Bummer.

Why would you need a designers permission to mod a model you're building for yourself??? Modding such as repainting then ditributing yeah sure, that's a little off to say the least but to modify your own personal build should be cool. At least it would be with me if someone did that to my models? Modding often enhances then right? :D

Great job Palmer! Very clean lookin' build.

If you remember Ojimak's response when someone posted build pics of his aircraft with a different livery. Ojimak in a fit removed his downloads.

Essentially it became a situation where it was not a good idea to post pictures of modified models without the designer's permission. Akin to distributing I guess.

Pretty much kills almost every build of mine.

Thank to all of you for your kind words!
I really feel stimulated to continue my moddings!

I want to warn you that a bad guy, who doesn't respect intellectual prop, who had this mod just for his personal use, posted it on the less respected /popercraft site on web! And using my name too!
I must check moral integrity of people I give my mods, next time.:p
Please DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT!
I'm very sorry, all my apologies to Hee for that, I really wanted to contact him for thanks and permission but he's unavaiable!

I agree with the distribution thing, but this sounds like an exageration to me...
When I play a modded cover with my band, must I ask artist's permission?
When I post pics of my modded gunplas, must I ask Bandai's permission?

I almost always make some mods to my builds!

Hi, Palmer.

You've done a great job with those mods.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

I respect you for trying to contact the original designer.
I know you have made proper efforts, but he seems to either not be around any more, or he has changed his name. (She? her?)

Copyright law is an absolute minefield.wall1wall1wall1

I will say only one thing on copyright, and then drop this hot potato.

In the UK and USA, the stated purpose of copyright law is to encourage artistic creation, whilst protecting the originators rights of distribution.
That's some balancing act - I'm glad I'm not a judge.

I've seen other threads go completely off the rails over copyright, so:

Back on track, Palmer: Kudos, and thanks for sharing!:thumb:

Thank you logicman!
you're right, interpretation of copyright changes greatly from person to person!
BTW
I found another blog of the designer:
»°¼¡¸µ¤Ê»æ¤¿¤Á£É£É

His name should be:サトウトモヲ(babelfish translates:[satoutomowo])
I'm so glad he's again in activity(even if his last post is from 12/20007 I hope he'll check the blog!)
I wrote a message in the blog 'cause I wasn't able to find his e-adress in the site(if anyone can, please tell me!).
His other designs are fantastic!
Did you seen this 'artificial-cubic-body of that genetic industry president I don't remember his name'?
I would love to have it!

Is this from a game, or a movie?

It reminds me of a Mick Jagger movie:Freejack.

Hold on for a second... I just gotta drag our patented deceased horse into position. I just noticed that there seems to be some portion on it's body where I haven't struck it with the forum bat...

UGH! *whack!* UGH! *whack!* ...

ps. Like the model no matter what. I'm a GITS fan... but not a GIT. sign1

Wow! this movie should be very interesting! I MUST watch it! I don't even know good old Mick was a filmmaker(among the other thinghs)!

That was from the anime series Ghost In The Shell - Stand Alone Complex (same as Tachikoma) and as I said, is the cybernetic body of the president of an industry who breeds transgenic pigs (with a wonderful barcode on a side! mmm...should be a great idea for a papercraft!)for transplants. Is also shown in some 'Tachikoma specials' at the end of every episode. Sadly I don't remember his name...

GITS is among the firsts places of my favourite animes, I warmly reccomand it to everyone, design is suggestive and it's full of filosofy and ethics on human-machine interface and artificial consciousness. It's also a lot... zen!
(And major Motoko Kusanagi has the best looking artificial body I've ever seen!!!:p)

Ok, I'll see what I can track down on the web. I'm not into games, (much) but from what you've explained I know what to look for.

Mick Jagger: yes, he could act when he put his mind to it, and Freejack, imho, was one of his best efforts.

I'll not spoil it for you if I just say that it's time-travel with a novel twist.
Our hero (Not Mick) is a race driver who gets whisked into the future and ...

Get it on DVD and enjoy!

To Mod or Not to Mod

Not being able to mod a paper kit is the same as not being able to modify a car, a house, a plastic model. Once it is out there, it is in the public domain. It is "illegal" and unethical to take someone's work, copy it and distribute or sell it as your own. Many do this; we have all seen it.

But to make a modification to an original kit and offer it to someone else is NOT illegal or unethical. That is the bottom line and that is not my opinion; it is fact. I have been affiliated with the model hobby industry since 1994 in a semi-professional way. I have had plenty of contact with industry CEOs and marketing reps. They LOVE it when someone makes a mod to their kit. I have used my contacts to help facilitate that exchange on a few occasions. It helps sell kits and attract new adherents to the hobby.

So, modify away and share your mods with whoever is willing to accept them! Remember; it's just a model, not an extension of your ego.

Thank you cdavenport! You expressed perfectly my thoughts too.
In effect I'd feel very proud and very interested if someone loose a lot of his time modifying an (ipotetical!) work of mine. You know what I mean.

A piece of art is surely like a son but, once created, you must have the courage to seeing it apart from you, as an indipendent product of your personality, just like a son!

Being sure サトウトモヲ is a so mature artist to feel those thinghs himself too, I want to give the link to download the Yellow. If the designer or a moderator feels like it's unfair, I'll remove it.

logicman: maybe I spoke confusely... It's not a game (well, I know they made some videogames too but I never played them), I'm talking about a show, a 26 episodes japanese cartoon.

Oh, Mick as an actor! I thought he was the director!
