HO Steamboat - first submission

Hi
This is my first submission to the Hobby Forum. I would like to share a recent project in HO scale for a Maine style river steam boat. I started with plans from a large scale magazine and reduced them dowm using Photoshop Elements and printing them out on my home printer. The hull was made as a water line model. I began with a block of balsa and attached a paper pattern to the top of the block showing the hull outline from the top down and also attached a paper pattern to one side showing a hull profile. I used a scroll saw with a tilting table to first cut the top pattern and then the side profile. After "LOTS" of sanding and balsa wood sealer, wet and dry paper and many coats of paint I had a hull. The hull was used for a pattern to cut the deck, oversized and sanded to a final size. The pilot house was layed out flat on thin styrene and bent around a jig to get the correct shape. Passenger area was plain straight forward flat construction. The stern area open deck does not show yet but will be covered with a wood deck, railings and seats for passenger comfort.

Thanks for looking and feel free to comment and suggest

That's a beautiful little ship.
It's coming along nicely, and a fine, clean build.:thumb::thumb::thumb:
Are the plans available to buy, or was this a magazine article?

Thank you logicman, The plans did appear in a magazine that I reduced to HO scale. I will check and see if I still have the reduced plans saved and let you know if I can email to you.

Here are two more pictures showing the next stages of construction. I'm also using this same technique to build two lobster boats to add to a dock I'm scratch building on a new module for my home layout.

Here she sits at Fish Camp waiting for deck details. I used a light wash to bring out surface details. In search of small beads to use as running lights, cleats and rope.

That' a little beauty, Roughneck.

If you have the patience - and the eyesight - you can cut out segments of plastic leds for the running lights.
