A silly idea that's working for me

Ralph

Remember...it's for fun!
I built most of my layout before becoming a member of the Gauge and benefiting from the inspirational photos and the vast experience here. So, I've been gradually going back and making improvements over time. Sometimes I have a little trouble focusing on where to work on the 12 X 20 foot space.

I had this idea a month ago to make a sign that said "Improvement Area" and place it on a portion of the layout, leaving it there until I was happy with how things looked. I decided to start with my engine service area and kept the sign there, which actually did help me stick to focusing on that scene. I added details and reconfigured things a bit. I just moved it to a river side scene that needs help. :)

Out AZ way
Grand idea, I'll take about four dozen for my layout, or perhaps one six-foot wide one.

Oh never mind, I don't think there's any doubt about what's happening on half my layout.

Good idea... and you should give us the "before and after" pictures too! ;) :D

I'll see if I can find a couple of illustrative ones.....
Here's one from a couple of months ago:

and here is an updated picture of the scene:

I moved a couple of structures and made subtle improvements like adding a staircase to one, some weathering to the roof of another. I put some little posts in the ground as guards for the road leading down into the area and railings along side the road passing by. I added hoses and other details to the sanding towers. I also made a ramp leading to the old Pennsy box car storage shed.

The good news is that the PC and the KP&W, which share the facility, will never get around to painting it so its heritage will remain visible until the rust takes over! :)
Ralph

Ah that is good. Speaking of the PC Ralph. For the longest time there was a MOW Passenger Car for the PC sitting here in my town for, I don't know how long. But a couple of years ago they finally removed it. Never got to take a picture of it. But there for awhile I couldn't figure out what Penn Central was until I asked around about it. sign1

No kidding!? How about that! Can't be too many of those around. Was it in MOW yellow? Glad you got some background on the PC...the railroad people love to hate. :)

Ralph

Yes it was. It used to sit along the old PRR Main Line that is now a branch line leading to a coal cleaning plant.
