Starting the tracks

Well it's that time! Time to build the tracks. To get my feet wet, I decided to build a small test section consisting of 10 links. I will eventually hang this on the front of the finished model...

Here is my step by step construction...Starting with the printed sheet...

Cut off the Grouser bars and and laminated them to a second thickness of card stock and added additional details.

Separated the guide plates from the inside track halves...

Added a paper tab to glue both inside halves of the track together

Cut out the slots for the drive sprockets

Finished section - sans grouser bars and guide plates...

This small track section went together pretty good... Now onto the rest of it...

Wow thats a very well done "old way" track (no laser precut tracks, etc.).

It looks very well to me. Keep going the good work, it only rests a lot more tracks :thumb:

Greetings

Small set back

For a while now I've been slowly working on the tracks. Well, tonight I have to report that my little dog Cooper, God rest his sole (JUST KIDDING!!!) decided to help me out a little bit. He's a great little dog but very mischevious... anyway to make a long story short he chewed up about 8 hours of hard work. Thank goodness it was only one of the two tracks - I guess it could have been a lot worse.

P.S. No dogs were harmed in the making of the build

I am sorry for that "accident". But you are a very optimistic person.

You are doing a great job with this build and I am learning useful things for my own builds. Thank you.

I second that!

By the way... what weight of cardstock do you prefer on a model such as this? :D

Heav, are you going to submit pictures of the final build to Naka? I'm sure he would like them from looking at the other build pictures up on his site. Kudos on the track build that survives so far.

BTW. Nice build. I want to make the ICM T34 but add some soviet graffiti on it or perhaps a white wash for winter time.

HeavyKevie, I showed my dog-loving wife, Cathy, your posting about Cooper's shinannigans and Cathy fell completely in love (with the dog, not me...) She has an animal bent-

So if you are in the mind to get rid of him, please let me know...sign1
If Cooper came into our home I'm sure I could get a lot more card modeling done...Cat would have something besides me to pay attention to...

She told me to tell you that you need Caesar Milan and scooters. I'll leave it to you to Google that out :thumb:
By the way- nice work on the model!
Cheers,
Bruce

Your work is exemplary. True craftsmanship in paper modeling and your photo coverage is very helpful for those of us that hope to someday be in the same league! Many thanks for sharing this build.

More bits and pieces

I'm still working on the tracks but progress is slow... I'm about 60% finished with them...I just had to shift gears a little and work on some other small parts before I totally go nuts!

I built part of the exhaust, the tool box, tow hooks and the jack...

It would be hard to get too angry with a dog that cute.

This is a wonderful build, I've really enjoyed following along so far.

WOW!

This is amazing work. The detail on the wheels and sprockets are unbelievable. And the tracks....

Can't wait to see this insanity end with the final model. Should be way cool.

Moving right along

It's been a while....but THE TRACKS ARE FINALLY DONE! and everything is beginning to come together. I still have a lot to do if I'm going to have everything finished up by the June 30 deadline but I'll give it my best shot.

Tracks are finally done. I just have to add the grouser bars once I get them mounted to the tub.

PanzerIVAusfD146.jpg

Road wheels, return rollers and bumper-stops installed.

PanzerIVAusfD150.jpg

Idler rollersinstalled...

PanzerIVAusfD152.jpg

Drive gears and tracks installed...

PanzerIVAusfD153.jpg

Bottom view. Had a bit of trouble with the transmission housings... They were not thick enough to center the track over the road wheels so I had to laminate them to 2mm of card stock to bring them out a little from the side of the hull.

Here are a couple of close up pics....

PanzerIVAusfD158.jpg

Just have to add the grouser bars to finish the tracks I waited till last to glue them on so the track would be more flexible. I used the sticky edge of a post it note to hold them while I paint the edges.

Thats it for now.
