Gondola's?

With the railroads being so big, the 40 yr interchange rule is basically moot. We run 45 yr old PS-2 covered hoppers here in Nevada to the sand pits and to California all the time. Captive service but still using old cars, till they get b/o and repair is determined on cost. Capacity has been a big reason older cars are retired. Lower capacity for car weight and size.

Good point Greg. I had forgotten that captive service does not necessarily mean mow. As long as they don't interchange the cars I guess they can run as long as the car can pass safety inspections.
