CNWman, the IRM is just to far from work to commute to daily, but if i won the lottery, your idea would be GREAT!:thumb:

Triplex, THANKS for the info:thumb: .

ON MY SIDE OF THE TRACKS...
Went to dads today and we worked on his layout:thumb: . there was two sections, the approach into the city, and leaving the city, that were really giving us problems, so we tore up about 15' of track and re-done those 2 areas. we completed the mainline & passing track, we just have to put the 2 spurs back in and a longer caboose track:winki::mrgreen: .

I was TOTALLY PLEASED with how the mainline & passing track turned out:thumb: , my pickiest engine, my Intermountain AC12 Cab Forward now runs perfectly through the whole layouts mainline! My Gas Turbine and Y3 were having problems before we fixed those areas too:frowns: , BUT NOW the Gas turbine runs FLAWLESSLY through it, and i am sure my Y3 will too:winki: , I'm still working on the Y3 so i wasn't able to check how it handles the new track work, but i am sure it will do fine:winki::mrgreen: .

My Athearn Big Boy & 2 Challengers ALWAYS ran good on dads layout, even through the two areas that my other BIG engines had problems with, i cant brag enough on how FANTASTIC these engines are, SLAP AWESOME detail on them too:winki: . if ANYONE was wanting to get reliable steam, MY ADVICE(and i DID say "MY ADVICE"), you just CANT beat the NEW Athearn steamers, they are so smooth running, sound great, detailed great, and NOT PICKY on track work:thumb: . (DISCLAIMER: I am basing this on HO scale with minimum 22r curves:winki: )

We were short 3 pieces of flex track, so we headed off to the hobby shop in Janesville, stopped by the WSOR round house & yard and grabbed a few NEW shots:mrgreen: , see pics below.

Like i mentioned, it ended up we have the switches in place, just need to connect them to the existing industry tracks, i figure about an hour or two worth of work and all the track work will be done:thumb: . after i re-do the scenery in those two areas I'll post some pics:winki: .

Till next time...STAY ON TRACK!:thumb:

In my post "above", notice the broom on #1501 & #1502, this would make an interesting add on detail to put on some of your switchers:winki: .

Josh, i have my fingers crossed for you:winki::mrgreen: .

Gus, you bet #1501 & #1502 are still in service:thumb: , they were BOTH running as i was taking their pics yesterday, they sounded GREAT too:winki: . #1501 is in primer, BOTH are waiting to be painted.

WSOR bought 5/6 of the old Milwaukee Road MP15AC's to replace the SD20's they have(see pics below).

The broom on BOTH of them is in the same exact spot:winki: .

STEAM HEAD Yup I was in heaven, mostly because that was less than a week after I got home from Desert Storm. What a welcome home they gave me:p I still have to find the newspaper article for that days events. I also am still trying to sort through those pics and find some more good ones.
Yup I think it was a ten wheeler, and the FT was a demonstrator paint scheme(somebody corrct me if I'm wrong)

DEANO I feel honored that you allow me to post my pics on your threads, Thank you. Don't make me have to say again that it was your threads that lead me to the Gauge:p
Here are some pics of 844 in it's present day form. This was last September. Between my Son and this event helped bring me back into the hobby.

That's me with the video camera, my wife was standing behind me taking pics:rolleyes: That's my Son and oldest Daughter standing with his school teacher in the foreground:mrgreen:

Indeed, that is the FT demonstrator scheme. The "road name" is EMD(or EMC, can't remember when the name changed)/GM Demonstrator #103, an A-B set. Along with the sister set,#103A, also A-B, the resulting A-B-B-A 'locomotive' toured the continental U.S. to prove steam was no match for desiels.

Matt, THANK YOU!, you are too kind:smilie: .

Jim, dog gone you:eeki: , after seeing all those AWESOME pics of those UP steamers, i am rethinking my NEXT layout, perhaps ALL UP/SP STEAM:eeki: ..."Hmm...i have a Big Boy, 2 Challengers, a Y3, an F-E-F Class 3 Northern, an 0-6-0, 2 AC12 cab forwards...All i need is a 2-10-2 and a Mikado and that should do it... ...." (looks over at 70-some Diesels)...well, maybe not:119: , but it was a good thought for the moment though:winki::119: .

Seriously though Jim, THANK YOU so much for posting all those FANTASTIC pics:thumb::smilie: , they were 110% right up my alley, even the Rio Grande one:thumb::mrgreen: . i think i can safely say EVERYONE that reads this thread THOROUGHLY ENJOYED those pics:thumb: , AGAIN, THANK YOU!

The ten wheeler on the flatbed really gave me a good idea too:winki::mrgreen: .

EDIT: DOH!, i forgot to answer your question on the club, Jim.
40 miles is quite a distance to travel, though it looks like they do have real nice stuff & a nice layout:thumb: , you can also learn quite a bit from others too:winki: .
Personally, believe it or not, in real life i am kinda a loner:eeki: , so the club thing isn't for me:cry: , luckily i still have my dad around:mrgreen: , and i have also learned a lot from reading, watching vids, forums, good friends i have made on THIS forum:winki: , and just slap good ol experience from doing things myself, so that works for ME.

On the other hand, my dad really likes to get with people, and often wishes he was in a club. i guess it depends on the type of person you are, and what advantages you would get by joining one:winki: . i know that probably didn't help:119: , but it does give you things to consider:winki: .
