Good one, Buckeye!

Dennis and Doug, I'll bet I don't retired for another 20 years! Oh well, I'll just appeciate it all the more! I'd like to do like Jon and a little like Chief and find something to do even after I'm retired, just to keep busy and be around people and stuff. After I did that work at home for a couple of years, I realized that I like to work around people. Kurt, at least you got tickets, so it's better than paying more for what you've got...

Roy, Don and Doug - I had a whole closet full of old computer stuff including old HDD's. Some had tax and other stuff on them and I think the biggest of these old ones was like 1.5 gig or something? They were from Windows 3.1 and 95 days. I finally took them out and drilled holes all through them, then burried them in sand under the deck for a few years. Nobody is getting any data off of those things :thumb: I gave a bunch of other stuff including video boards and soundcards to a buddy who does repairs for people. He just had to upgrade a computer from ME because MS has stopped supporting it and Norton expired and killed it. He put XP on that system and it's working well.

John Baker - you need a better firewall/antivirus, I think. I'm using F- Secure and it seems to be very effective.

Jeff - nice pic!

Been semi-retired since 96 (56yo) got a one day a week job within three weeks, finished up working almost 24/7 running the whole outfit single handed after finding a market for special boiler plant components by sheer accident. Health gave out in 2000 haven't worked since. Took up supporting a brewery but I'm now sick of that , got fat and lazy. Now trying to rectify the damage, got an appointment with the Vet. next month, unfortunately I have a good idea of the verdict.

I have a top of the range ERNI on which I drive trains from around the world. I love drag freights over the high passes, keeping the ammetre out of the red without stalling on the hills or cooking a motor, I also get a buzz from chasing the schedules on high density passenger routes.
Just downloaded and installed Service Pack three for XP and Avast have just put out a few updates.

Get a lot of fun from humorous e-mails which bounce back and forth across the pond, some of them I translate from English to English before I send them on.
Smiley's back, so it aint that bad.sign1

Morning all. Just returned from getting the oil changed in the van. The kids and bride are walking around texting each other in the house. Hope you all have a good day today. It seems warmer - at least we should see the sun for a few days - hurray. Back hurts today for some reason. Should rest it ;)

The Chief just called me. He was heading to Miss Edna's to buy me a big present since he missed my birthday. What a guy!!! :thumb: Will it be a new set of F3s or the Legacy system. I can hardly wait! bounce7

Good afternoon folks

I have a couple of crazy days with the snow yesterday. I never made it to work due the road conditions. The kids had off from school so we did a few things around the house. The roads cleared up around noon so we ran a few errands.

I went out this morning and got my haircut. We are about to head out to softball and baseball tryouts. It is kind of hard to get into mood when there is snow on the ground. At least we are indoors at the middle school gym.

I began sealing the flat cars last night.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Hello everyone,

Now I am having a great day, just finished getting the taxes ready to take to the CPA, only took 6 hours this year. Don't laugh, the wife said, are you done already?

Now I can relax until I find out how much I owe.

On the subject of computers, it is amazing how much the prices of laptops has come down recently. Just got one of those advertising emails with a great deal for $499. Don't really need another computer, so guess I will pass. I know the grand kids would love one but can't afford to buy 8 of them.

Sure is a good smell coming from the kitchen and I am starved. Had a late breakfast and didn't break for lunch while working on the taxes, so I will be ready to eat.

All I use my cell phone for is to make calls, have never sent a text message. Got charged for 1 minute of Internet service one time. All I can figure is that I pushed the wrong key by accident.

Have a great rest of the weekend.

Afternoon all!

A grand day here today. 50, crisp, and sunny. Supposed to be even nicer tomorrow.

Spoke to the Chuef and he will post an update on Dr. John (he is fine).

Jeffrey - that backdrop really makes the photo today.

Don - no rain yet at the race - sure am glad your friend saved you all that stress on those NASCAR tickets! Hope the rain holds off for tomorrows race.

Brutus - holes and sand - good idea! I have hit mine with a big magnet and a hammer.

Buckeye - ....and wait...and wait... and wait....

Have a great afternoon all!

Glad to hear about Dr. John. Funny, I just was thinking of trying to track him down myself. Spent the afternoon trying to fix a clogged toilet. Think it's beyond me and my auger. I'll try again tomorrow.

Got to Electrictrains on Page today and spent some allowance - picked up some more gargraves track and 2 RCS switches. I went with the manual ones as I read there is a new motor out that is TMCC right out of the box? Plus, right now my layout is pretty small and so can reach them easily.

Anybody know how to attache Caboose throws to these? Do you use little screws? Should I predrill the wood (I guess yes!)?

Sir James, Jon, John and Chief, my folks sure love their grandkids too -- 10 of them so far! Baby sister hasn't started having kids yet either so who knows how many there will be?

John Baker - laying off the ethanol? Good for you! I have a beer or two now and again, but that's about it. Otherwise, it's rootbeer (gingerbeer) and soda. Turns out too much diet soda will give me a kidney stone, so now I drink lots of water and this has made training fun! They think I'm the nicest guy, cause I give them a break every hour

Roy, thanks for the update on Dr. John, I've been worried about him - esp since I saw some pictures on the news

Dennis, we need pics of the dollhouse!

Nice pic, Jeffrey, like that KCS locomotive. I'm not up on diesels, which one is that?

RT - cherry pie is good, but apple is my favorite! Warm right from the oven with Banilla, yummy!

I'll bet CSX lost another 5 pounds! CSX - there was a book a few years ago about programming games in general that had generic C code included. Lots of great info about decision matrices and game AI. I'll look on Amazon and see if I can remember the title. I also had a good book called The Black Art of Game Programming (or something close to that) for VB.

What ever happened to VB? I thought about getting it for my new computer, but nobody has it any more? How dumb of MS!

Hope Steamhead, Tom, Tom Spankybird, Ngauger, Ozzy, Frank53, and others are doing well too!

That's a GP40-2P.This particular model is a 30+ year old chassis sporting a 2 year old shell.

There was a bit of a derailment today. KCS 4740 jumped the track at the west turnout.

Don't think you will find DR. John in that!!!!:mrgreen:
Sorry I did not post about Dr. John. Talked to him the other day. East Prattville was hit but his area and the Church was not. Had a few members that were hit. Badly damaged a K-Mart and damaged Walmart. Walmart was back open but he said K-Mart might never open again. Had a couple of folks still in shelter but most in hotels. Did not get close to BPS. All about the same with his Mom and Dad. Wife and Daughter getting into the Wedding mode. wall1 Was good old relaxced Dr. John. Miss his posts.

Went to Miss Edna's. Took her and Jerry a big bag of turnips each. Mine are still growing. Some big as soft balls. Resting up as got red and runny left eye and stuffed nose. Chat later.

Chief...The Hogs are back on CTT. Have you ever thought of having a pig roast in your back yard.

Working on my bridge piers and abutment. Purchased paint at HD and wood to make trim and rocker bearings.

We took a little drive out to the South Florida Railway Museum and the Jupiter lighthouse. Railway museum managed to provide 3 trains while we were there - One Amtrak (Silver Star?) and 2 Tri-Rail. My wife felt that the Amtrak looked a little worn -- she sat next to an old heritage diner with lots of cracking paint. Tri-Rail seemed a little over-powered: 2 Geeps for 3 cars.

Well, I got a good deal of time in on the layout today. :thumb: Ran several lengths of "Star" wiring (12ga) to the blocks of the outer loop. Have a few more on that one and then I will start on three more loops and also the yard. I will be running the yard tracks through switches so I can turn power off to each track for locomotive storage.

We did a good bit of shopping tonight. Have a party after Sunday School for one of the couples who is expecting their first girl....after 3 boys! I am making a spinach salad with Guacamoli/ceasar and goat cheese dressing. Bride bought a bunch of clothes for the baby.....I think she wants to go back to China for another one too.wall1

Chief, thanks for the heads up on NS engines, I will check them out. I had better get to bed. Early church and have to get my reading done.
God Bless,
Dennis

Squeeling up a storm. Seems a hog can't change his squeel. That reminds me, LAZ that question you asked. Bet he has to run to the library, a family member's or work to answer it. Notice he disappeared over the weekend. Don't think he is on a cruise. Lets see.
Dennis, the Bride probably would like that trip.
Off to bed.

Hang in there Dennis - baby fever tends to fade with exposure. Just volunteer your wife as a babysitter during the puke/poop/cry period and after a few hours of work on the layout (maybe a full day and most of an evening), when you return to the bosom of your family, I'll bet things have taken a turn for the better ;)

Up too late after answering a bunch more emails from a friend I made in Orlando. She's a really nice lady and much smarter than I am, though I don't think she has figured that out yet!!! Her son is an eagle scout and just turned 18 and became assistant scoutmaster. My beloved wife and I are trying to explain to our son that now that he is a boyscout, he should really set a goal for himself of making it to eagle scout. If he starts off on the right foot and we get some of his hiking in early, he should be able to make it and this would be a good thing later in life, as well as building character etc.

Really getting too tired to type, so TTFN!

Good Morning............
It is a cold 13 degrees. Going up to 38 today with some sunshine.
Can't get into CTT, this morning. It is becoming a pain again.
Today is a relaxing day. Nascar race from CA, if it doesn't rain. I thought it never rained in CA.
Everyone have a nice day,
Chuck

Morning all, glad to hear about Dr. John. he just popped into my head as I was in the basement looking for the auger. I remember a similar conversation a few years ago to what Dennis might be having in the future. The result is running around half-dressed this morning imitating a Rug Rats movie...

Good Morning
We have bright sun and 20s this morning, off to church soon as I am in charge of getting a big crock of chilie there.they are having an after service pot luck type dinner.
I read in the paper that companys are already leaving China for places with cheaper labor and material cost. Boy was that easy to predicte some years ago. Cheaper and cheaper until the product will crumble in the box before it is sold.....S.J.
