Good Morning--
Can tell it's warmer, the house doesn't feel nearly as cold and the furnace stopped after a 10 minute warm up. We really need a serious thaw, there are places on our driveway with 2" of solid ice, the steep part  We are off to northern IA tonight to take care of the princess for the weekend while Mom & Dad guide/chaperone an overnight jazz band trip, I KNOW we are getting the better deal  been there, done that.

I said good bye yesterday to one of my part time gigs that I really enjoyed, it was a wonderful 7 years and I will miss the staff but not the responsibilities & commitment that go with it. Not so much fun coming home at mid night, I retired 8 years ago for a reason. Now I'm down to judging contests on weekends and mentoring new teachers which I will continue for two more years and then I'm going to REALLY retire again........ maybe.

Morning all!
Chief, the best way to stall progress is to put it in committee. I absolutely hate meetings and attend as few as possible. My heart goes out to ya big guy.
Jon, I have another 15 years to go before my planned retirement. That being the case, I may be way out of line here, but I think you and the Chief have retirement all wrong. Isn't this the time when you are supposed to do what you want, when you want? To tell people what you really think of them, etc. I may stick it out a few years after the plan, until the kids are in college, but I really do plan to relax and finally run the trains when I want, for as long as I want.
Well, it has been raining since yesterday afternoon. A nice soaking rain. Temps have been in the 60s and we have a lot of things blooming. The Japanese Magnolia is in full bloom and a bunch of flowering trees are well on the way. I just hope we don't get a late freeze that damages everything.

Y'all have a great weekend.

Good Morning All
We got about an inch of snow from the mess that ran east and south of here. Its about 20 degrees and cloudy. As usual I have not planned my day yet. I still have to find stuff for next Sundays show, but I have a week and some things in mind. Have a good weekend all. S.J. :thumb:

Morning all!

35 and cloudy here this morning - but warming for the weekend :thumb:

Don - way to go on the wiring!

Ah retirement! Thought I had - and now working as much as before - but more fun - teaching robotics to elementary kids and mentoring the HS group. Working on layouts - and consulting to my old co...

Dennis - at least you get to pick and chose your directions.

Gotta run - got the PC rescued yesterday and last night (10 hrs so far - complete stripdown and reinstall) and now to get it back and running on the corp network - then lunch with the mrs.

Have a great day all!

Morning all. Dennis, Oh boy, it would be nice to see that magnolia instead of ice and snow. Made myself feel better by booking a week in Hilton Head this summer. Remind me when I complain about gas being $5 a gallon in July. I don't mind meetings if they give me a chance to encourage someone.

Congrats on your re-retirement, Jon. It was a good run at the center. They were fortunate to have you. :thumb:

John, I thought of you instantly when I saw that CNJ unit. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

I just cleaned out an old-computer-closet seeing what could be recycled. It was like going through a grave-yard - big floppy units, weird monitors, lotsa steel.

Great news about the computer, Roy!

Dennis--
For me when I left teaching after 32 years of 6 days a week and 3 weeks off in the summer was the beginning of my retirement. I rarely had a Saturday off and I always taught during the summer so when I left that responsibility it was the dawn of a new life for me. I knew I would stay busy with kids and directors on the weekends and often times doing clinics on week nights and the difference was that it was on my schedule, my choice. I couldn't quit cold turkey, I didn't want to. When I began part time work at a the 14th largest live performance theatre in the USA I had no idea it would be so much fun, however it did turn into a job the last 3 years and my family kept saying "why"? The "why" part was because of the great friendships I developed at that theatre, I will miss those folks.

What's next? I will begin working with Habitat for Humanity pounding nails and doing whatever, it's something I've wanted to do for years. Nows the time. I just can't sit still  Plus my layout is done and that's why I want to tear it down in two more years and build one more :thumb:

Now if someone wants to buy us some property in St. Thomas, VI I might consider changing my plans bounce7

Doug: Hilton head sounds great!

Booked our trip to attend wedding in May...Prices went up a bit since a week ago when I talked to travel agent. She and I were on the phone for 2-hours yesterday trying to match up flights. She couldn't see the flights on her 'travel agent' site that I could on NWA...
Bride wanted to switch to non-stop this am...DAH.
Checked for flights this am, and the flights we booked last night went up $100/seat today. Flights non-stop were out of site.

Cleaned inside of track connections, re-installed track sections, no slow spots! Ran trains this am, and this afternoon.

Doug, Hilton Head sounds great! Have some friends up that way. One is a retired RR worker, the other is a cardiologist. They had a bad fire there not too long ago, some college kids died.

Jon, Yeah, I suppose retirement these days means moving onto things that are more meaningful and not just sitting on the front porch, watching the world go by. I told my wife I want to be the engineer for the Disney World steam engine when we retire. I also want to get a RV and visit all the national parks with my camera.

A question. I posted this on CTT, but also would like the folks here to assist if possible. I was offered a Lionel #6-52459 Tallulah Falls 0-4-0 switcher. It is from Georgia Power for employees with a good safety record. I want to give the guy a fair price, but don't have the latest Greenburg's and not sure if it in there anyway. It does have whistle sounds but not TMCC. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am following one now on eBay that currently is $81.00.
Thanks.
God Bless,
Dennis

Thanks to everyone for the Birthday wishes this week. It has been a fun week. My daughter gave me a card with the following greeting:

Dad,
When you look at me, try not to see all the hours of worry I caused you....

Try not to think of the thousands of dollars you invested in me......

Try not to remember the anxiety, frustration and pure torture I've put you through..........

Instead, just think of what a great little character builder I've been!!

Happy Birthday.

Good one, Buckeye!

Dennis and Doug, I'll bet I don't retired for another 20 years! Oh well, I'll just appeciate it all the more! I'd like to do like Jon and a little like Chief and find something to do even after I'm retired, just to keep busy and be around people and stuff. After I did that work at home for a couple of years, I realized that I like to work around people. Kurt, at least you got tickets, so it's better than paying more for what you've got...

Roy, Don and Doug - I had a whole closet full of old computer stuff including old HDD's. Some had tax and other stuff on them and I think the biggest of these old ones was like 1.5 gig or something? They were from Windows 3.1 and 95 days. I finally took them out and drilled holes all through them, then burried them in sand under the deck for a few years. Nobody is getting any data off of those things :thumb: I gave a bunch of other stuff including video boards and soundcards to a buddy who does repairs for people. He just had to upgrade a computer from ME because MS has stopped supporting it and Norton expired and killed it. He put XP on that system and it's working well.

John Baker - you need a better firewall/antivirus, I think. I'm using F-Secure and it seems to be very effective.

Jeff - nice pic!

Howdy all. Had a long day of Town Board Retreat. Came home to go back out to hospital to visit MIL. Admitted her at 3 AM Thursday as she could not breath. Pneumonia. Lots of folks have it around here. Large number of folks with flu. We had cold rainy day after some icy trees early this AM. Now I have runny nose and sore throat. Here we go again. wall1:cry: Got home to eat a box of Bojangles and went right off to sleep [reclinerizing]. Woke up a little while ago. Back to bed. Later

Chief, prayers already lifted for MIL.
SWMBO told me I need to work on the Layout and the Dollhouse today.....Gotta Love Her! Anyway, have to get off this computer and get to work. I tried to post here and it was lost to the neverworld.
As for the 0-4-0 Switcher from Georgia Power, I think I will go with the retail for the B&O for my pricing and I believe it goes for $169. Anyway, hope everyone has a great weekend.
God Bless,
Dennis

Well, everyone sleep late. ??????? Country side meat sliced bacon style, some eggs and grits. Lots of coffee. Finally able to get in kitchen. Wife been cooking cake squares for another baby shower. Means I get the corners and top sliced off [trimmed to make them perfectly flat]. Probably go to Miss Edna's today. Got to get back to work on RT's ZW. Got a head cold [again]. Hope it stays out of the lungs. Have a good one.

Greetings from northern IA where the temps are better, it was getting to warm in our area, 33. We are taking care of the granddaughter this weekend so that means she will get to go to a wonderful train store in Cedar Falls, Caboose Stop Hobbies. Doug--let's meet there, they always have free pizza about noon!

This is our first weekend that we have not had a storm, finally. My concern now is that if we have a quick thaw this spring there will be a flooding concern, there is a LOT OF SNOW up here and in our area also.

Need to keep moving, the princess is needing grandpa's attention.

Buckeye--I really liked your daughters birthday message, that could fit any child.

Dennis and Jon, we must have posted about the same time. Dennis, got a K-Line [original K-Line] NS switcher from Choochoo. Had been run but looks "brand new". Reason I could tell it had been run was some scaring of the wheels and traction tires. A kit is going into this one.

Jon, those Grandkids can rule the world. Hope mine comes for visit. Wanted to go down to see him today but wife has shower. Chris [SIL] had birthday. They heard a loud bump the other morning. Ran into Carter's room. Carter had climbed over the rail and landed on his behind on the floor. He was just sitting there looking up at his crib as if to say, "How did I do that and how do I get back in so they will not know?"

Morning all....
Boy do I ever have some good customers! This one guy comes in 3 or 4 times a year, and always wants to talk about cars. Each time he ends up saying he is going to bring me Nascar tickets so don't buy any including the hospitality booths. But, the race has usually come and gone and don't see him for a month after. Then he starts all over again. Well I can see that he has taken my well being to heart, and spared me the discomfort of going to the race with the possibility of rain. Its really nice to know that someone is concerned that much about you so as not to promote you getting exposed to inclement weather. It seems he has spared me the tickets again.

Going to spend the day with the switches, I have 14 done and about 6 to go. Can really be time consuming, but hopefully soldering the wires will prevent future issues. Will have to try and post some pics. Right now just getting them all wired up to the AIU's. Did some testing last night and so far so good.
Hope everyone has a great day, its going to be wet here.
