Detail Parts sources - Poling Pockets

Anyone out there know if there are any manufacturers that produce poling pockets such as you might see at the end of a wooden end beam?

Thanks

I have made them before by making a tiny loop of copper magnet wire and soldering it to a small strip of brass. Not perfect, but not bad either.

And since your car is HOn3...you're showing it at 2x the actual size! Very impressive!

Coronado Scale models makes some in O scale. Grandt Line makes some corner castings...although I don't if they offer a poling pocket version. Precision Scale offers a bunch in O scale...and I'd bet they do as well for HO (I only have their O scale catalogs).

Here's what I found. Not sure if these are what you need.
www.walthers.com -- search page

Looks like the first one is a loco pilot beam with poling pockets, while the second is an oval poling pocket for end beams.
You can make these from styrene, too: use either a straight slice of styrene tubing, or make an angled version. If the car has wooden end beams, cement the bit of tubing to a square of .005" or .010" sheet styrene.
The car below shows the angled version.

nachman, that's amazing. If I tried to solder something that small, I'd end up with a poling blob instead of a pocket!

doctorwayne, your variation on nachoman's theme is a good idea - I'll have to experiment with that.

nkp and brakie, thanks for the pointer to Precision Scale (and also via Walthers). I actually have their catalog, but didn't think to use it... I'll look into Grandt line and Cal Scale as well. Are there any other detail firms that are worth looking into?

I've always liked Detail Associates and Details West, and even though a lot of their stuff is for diesels, they do have some freight and passenger car hardware too. A couple of others are Tichy and Grandt Line, especially for steam-era stuff.
