Daughter is beginning to use toilet! Hurray!...just for Bride. Wanted raspberry truffel ($30/lb chocolates) that Bride likes as a reward. DOH. At least there's progress. Had to make a trip to the Chocolate shop yesterday...Now what do I do for the 14th?

Cold and light snow here 10-degrees...cold (1-degree) for tomorrow am.

Morning all. Brisk here. Brutus, whenever I visit someone's home and get to see a gigantic basement, I always spec out what sort of layout I could fit in it - LOL. I've always liked the look of the Phantoms. The youngest is my only train buddy these days - his older siblings are embarrassed - though their visiting friends always love the layout. LOL. John, hope you can hang onto your trains - take them out again when you have the room. Dennis, I wonder what editing firm your friend worked with here in Chicago. Off to church.

Morning. Kurt and Sir J, it is your fault. Windy and colder in NC. Yuz giz are tough to put up with that. Sure is pretty up there in the spring and summer. Great fishing too. Your winters are rough though. Think I can see a steak in the near future. Off to Texas Steakhouse. Later.

Good Morning! Worked all day yesterday (7-6), then on the way home stopped, had dinner, and took wife to movie.

Friday night had a couple of visitors to the layout. Everything worked great, things WERE running great. THEN... brought out Cab Forward, and had a couple of theres setting on track. Lost power to main line??? Only way to get power was when I had a caboose setting on a siding and if I bridged it over the main. Then came back on. Long story short. TOGGLE SWITCH FAILED !!!! Apparently the switch was underrated (6a 250v), one of the contacts came loose from the switch body. ...No contact !! Didn't like running the train through the caboose, too much current draw going through the caboose to the main! However, if I jumped the wires at the main switch around the two contacts of the toggle everything worked great. So will upgrade to a bigger toggle switch as soon as I get time. Have to work today also.

Interesting day at computer show. Actually was quite busy. In an adjacent building was an auction of foreclosures. Picked up one of the booklets they had. REALLY SAD! Bidding really started low, an was verry quick. I just looked at the pics of the houses, and couldn't help but wonder what the family make-up was of the people that lived there. Really depressing! (One guy told me that they were making $3200 a month payment (interest only) and had used credit card (@25% interest rate), and had a $75,000 balance on his card!!!)

Chief glad to hear you got those upgrades! You will like them.
John, good strategy on the pre-orders!
BTW, BIG thanks to ROY and JOHN for the advice I received on the layout wiring! Worked FIRST time I applied power. THANKS GUYS
Doug (dagrump), Kay is now concerned that you will think poorly of her for my reference to the hair stuff. I told her not to worry, it wan't anything negative, and anyway you had a great sense of humor. May need to show her your posts. Anyway really great to be able to kid around with a great bunch of guys.

Later, Got to get going. Need to go by the office and pick up more stock. Have a GREAT DAY !!

I'm pointing to Doug...This started in the Windy City. It was sunny and 70 before there.

I like the Winter, just hate ice. My back was hurting yesterday just thinking about the job Doug had to do on his driveway. I'll say one thing, Orlando sure was nice in Jan/Feb! Blue and Gold today, so will have to get off computer soon to get showered up. Had chocolate or powder donuts (Hostess) on the dining car this AM. Kids are watching Gameplan - pretty good movie!

Happy Sunday, Everyone
Junior won the Shootout. Now on to Daytona.
It's windy today. Cold wind chill. Going down to 8 degrees tonite. No snow yet.
Be back later,
Chuck

Just returned from two malls, we're both going stir crazy with this weather. Woke up to an even zero with strong winds out of the north west, ugg. Apparently I've finally fixed the frozen pipe problem on the north side, took long enough. We walked about 60 yards into a north wind from our car to the mall entrance, wowser bowser, I think it's warmed up to 4 today. Tonight may be worse  and they are talking more snow tomorrow, we need to catch a break---soon.

Ozzy--you hangin' in down there?

Evening,
Cold and WINDY here. 19 degrees last I looked and going much lower. Gas heater in greenhouse can't keep up. Had to turn on the electric also. Dollars just blowing away, but like to grow stuff so guess I have to pay up.
wall1

Had dinner with Son and family, deer steak on the grill, baked potatoes, salad & several deserts. I am not normally a great fancier of deer meat but this was outstanding. Son has learned to use a marinade that really makes them taste great. The family got three deer this year so they are learning many ways to prepare it.

Don, I think you just got a bad switch. The rating is only critical if you turn them on and off under full load. I have all 6 amp switches on my layout and have never had one fail. Have blown quite a few 10 amp fuses through them. It would be different if you operated your trains for 24 hours straight, then the heat buildup would destroy them. Just my opinion.

John Baker, Don't give up on O gauge. How about a shelf around the room or up at ceiling level?

Forgot this bit of good news. wall1 wall1  Wife found some shingles in the back yard, they came off the front of house roof. This part of roof is about 25 years old. Looks like more expenses coming soon. :curse:

Sorry to hear some folks have some issues to deal with, but they make us stronger. John B., with Fastrack, you could always make it into sections and then stow the sections when not in use. I'd be willing to send you some sections if you would like.

Doug, I believe he is independent. He also has a film he is editing for a church in North Carolina. Great guy. He goes out on faith and though it is tight, he is able to pay the bills for his family.

Chief, hope you have a great time on the cruise with Miss Pam. Glad your layout has progressed as far as it has. All plans for this weekend were scrapped with call and honey dos. I did get some work done on the Doll House, but not significant.

I hope everyone has a great week ahead.
God Bless,
Dennis

Dennis, you'll make it. :thumb: Guys, wind has hit 50 to 60 mph. Forest fires, trees down and power outages. None in Roseyville [so far]. Deer came out for feeding tonight. This time, cut off truck and stood right by it. One came up to within 20 feet, she stood there in the dark in a mowed area, I turned the Maglite on and she stomped her foot at me. Then she snorted. I snorted back and she walked off [did not run] to the corn. Time for winding my old clocks [one was my Granddad's] adn popcorn. Later

Howdy All, Popcorn sounds good, although I'm still feeling the turkey dinner we had. The TTOS show turned out good for me as I brought home a Williams Seaboard switcher, the orange and blue.I am sending the seller a check in the morning, one benefit of being seen often. Won two marx metal cars for the shelf today so it turned into a good train day despite the very windy and cold day. It's 2 degrees right now. I'll check back B 4 bed,,S.J.

Yeah John - I know that song and dance.. I'm afraid to look out the window with the morning light tomorrow... Our roof is 30 years old :(

Chief.. No - we're not "tough" up here - we complain as much as you southerners do.. :D We don't even have real Grits to comfort us LOL

The wife & I had a FREE dinner tonight,... well not really free... Our daughter came over with her 2 friends - with 7 Top Round Sirloin stakes... They cooked it and some corn on the grille.. yeah - in 20 deg ree weather with a wind chill of 13 LOL

The steaks were PERFECT!!!! Melt in yor mouth... All it cost me was running out yesterday to get 15.00 worth of a propane tank refill :D

Got to see the no 2 Daughter (24 years old) :) The no. 1 daughter (26 years old)- is in NC... she's expecting my (and my wife's) first grandchild (grandson) soon....

Her due-date is tomorrow - so hopefully we'll hear something very soon :D :D :D

Hey Ngauger - congrats on the grandchild! Keep us posted!

It went from about 60 yesterday to freezing cold today. Went to Blue and Gold - supposed to run 3 hours, so it went 5 of course. Oh well, last one for us - woohoo. My mom is having a knee replacement surgery tomorrow. Sister will call when it's all over and we will go see her this weekend. No trains today, but did get to talk to my buddy Dave. Had a piece of cake, so I'll just hang out here and try to rest up for work tomorrow. Weather report says 2 to 5 inches of sleet and snow tomorrow, but after morning rush hour - great.

TTFN!
