Joe:wav: , THANK YOU!:mrgreen::smilie:

Kurt, the flat car has concrete ties on it:thumb: , it was part of a work train that was installing concrete ties on UP's line that runs from Omaha to Proviso yard. that train was really long, i have a pic of the lead unit on it pictured below, their were about 6-8 UP SD60M's in the consist also.

so you like the idea of one large factory, i was actually thinking the same:thumb: , though i have a neat "old" factory that would have worked well with a "newer" distribution center:winki: . if i get some time tonight I'll post a general idea of both scenarios:winki: .

Great collection of photos Dean! I think we talked about how we probably just missed each other in Chicago to see the Zephyr. Nice shots of both the real thing and your model!

Hey Deano..!! Some of those cars are just as interesting as your locos..!! I Particularly like the Bordens milk car. Neve would have thought such a thing existed..!! But then in the dairyland state....
I can also see where your weathering inspiration comes from...Thanks for posting...:thumb:

Roger, i am sorry i had no idea what a George Webbs was:eek:ops: , Steve(Nazgal)wrote me last night and explained it to me:winki: (THANKS STEVE!:thumb: ). so no, i haven't ate at one:cry: , but since you mentioned it, I'll be looking for one now:thumb::mrgreen: .

Ralph, THANK YOU! , AND yes, i sure wish i knew you was going to be at the Museum, we could have hooked up and checked the Pioneer Zephyr & that layout:winki: . from the way it sounded, we just missed each other by a couple hours:frowns: .

Gus, THANKS! I'm glad you liked the butter dish milk tank car:thumb: . it was made in 1935, and they were quite common for that time:winki: . the one in the pic i took is the LAST ONE known in existence:eeki: , it is at the IRM:thumb: .
SIDE NOTE: Wayne, this car is in your layouts time period:winki: , i would love to see you model it:thumb: , it looks like it wouldn't be to difficult to do, and NO ONE makes a model of these cars:cry: ...just a thought:119: .

******************************************************
OK, HERES MY CHOICES...
FIRST, i made a mistake:eek:ops: , the factory i want to do will be on the UNFINISHED EAST SIDE of the layout...not the west:eek:ops: .

SECONDLY, i cant tell you folks how embarrassed i am to put these three pics up:eek:ops: . i really hate posting pics this far away from being finished up:eek:ops: . NONE of ANYTHING you see is even remotely close to being finished:eek:ops::eek:ops::eek:ops: . heck, i haven't even done the backdrop in this area:eek:ops: . i CAN ASSURE YOU, when i decide what i am going to do, you will see the multitude of details i am going to put in, and it will look a 1000x better:thumb: .

CHOICE #1
this choice has an old factory, with a newly built butler building added on for the distribution center. the old factory has a run through track, with an outside track on the farthest side of it. in theory this would be good, but after looking at it, it kinda just looks like a jumbled mess to me:eek:ops::119: .
(FIRST TWO PICS BELOW)

CHOICE #2
this choice shows a NEWLY built butler building type factory, it would have two run through tracks, and would be larger then choice #1:thumb: . the distribution center would be connected to it, and it would look like one huge factory. i just used photo shop to put the run through part in as i don't have it built yet:winki: .
(LAST PIC BELOW)

SIDE NOTE: my layout is in the 1969-79 era, so butler buildings were around, but fairly new:winki: .

THIS IS NOT a vote to see what you folks think is better, I will decide the final outcome:twisted: , but your thoughts are MOST CERTAINLY WELCOME:thumb: .

till next time...STAY ON TRACK!

No biggy Deano I havnt eaten there for umm 30 years.Thats the way we would end our nights after hitting the barsaussie. A double grease burger fries and bowl of chili:eek:. Nobody wanted to be around you the next day for some odd reason:eek:ops::mrgreen::mrgreen:. Not sure my stomach could handle it any more. Just thought it was funny to see such a wisconsin icon on a layout.

Gus, THANK YOU for your vote of confidence:mrgreen: , now i just hope i can live up to it:119: .

Roger, sounds like i had the same scenario that you did with George Webb's, only with me it was the Waffle House:119: . i lived in Florida from '83-2000 , spent many late nights in there after bar time:119: .

****************************************************
ON MY SIDE OF THE TRACKS...
I have decided to go with choice #1 on the factory:mrgreen: . thats using the old factory with the NEW distribution center add on, more details on this in later posts:winki::mrgreen: .

on another note, i just ordered a UP MP15AC:thumb: . UP runs MP15DC's in a pair around here(pic below), i think i will pair up my MP15DC with my NEW MP15AC:winki: , they should look great together:thumb::mrgreen: . I'll post pics of it when it comes in:winki: . the other pic below is my UP MP15DC:mrgreen: .

TILL NEXT TIME...STAY ON TRACK!

Sounds great Deano. If I can ever get a layout going I may have to see what kind of Gern industry would be in souther Colorado. Home of the.........not ready to tell yet railroad;-) If I can ever get off my but and get some decent picks, Crazy Larry(Pueblo shop foreman) has my new railroad in the making, history and all:mrgreen:

THANKS SARGE!!!
to be quite honest, i have been dragging my...backside:toug: on doing anything to the East side of the layout because...i hate doing structures:eek:ops: . don't get me wrong, it ain't that i am bad at doing them, i just find much more enjoyment doing other things this hobby provides:winki: . but doing the GERN is just the shot i needed to get me going:twisted: .

Sarge, i STRONGLY suggest getting going on your layout, i am most interested in seeing what you will be doing:winki::mrgreen: . if you go with the Rio Grande, i would be happy, i am a big Rio Grande fan too:thumb: ...OR, if you went with Union Pacific, well that would just make my day:mrgreen: . HONESTLY, ANY road would be good, JUST DO IT!:winki::twisted: .

I don't want to spill the beans yet, but it will be a freelance road that inter changes with both:mrgreen: Already have some units painted up in a proposed paint scheme. Still working out some details. As far as a layout, no space here. I am going to try to work a small scene/diorama/moduel probably of an engine service facility area.

Aaahhh...I see GERN is rapidly expanding...!!! Must be one of those multi-national conglomerates looking to get its talons into every corner of the world.....:p

Good decision on the old brick building...It adds a time dimension to the layout and gives it a lot of character....:thumb:

PD-I just happen to love old buildings...The older, the better....

Good pick Deano!...........I stayed out of this one because I saw merrits in either choice. The one with the brick building was my favorite however................so it must be the right choice:twisted::gaptooth::winker:

Sarge, Rio Grande and UP:thumb: , not to mention the "mystery" freelanced road, i am anxious to see what will transpire:winki::mrgreen: . hey, i don't have much room currently either at this time:frowns: , so currently i am running on a 30''x8' switching layout, it keeps me going:winki::mrgreen: .

Josh, Gus & Steve:wav: , THANKS GUYS! , sounds like the right decision was made in keeping the "old" factory:thumb: . I'll post pics of progress after i get a decent amount done:winki: .
