Hello all,
Getting back into the RR scene. I had an HO layout in my last house that I did with no help from anyone and hated it . Young and Dumb,This was about 19 years ago.
Now in my new house Ive met people that can help and am going to start an N scale layout. Also with the internet and sites like this I feel confident that I will enjoy it this time around!!:thumb:

Ron: Welcome, I'll bet we have all had one of those layouts, or at least started one. Isn't experience great? Trouble is, when you get all of that experience, nobody wants to hear about it.
As for your Y and D comment, we had a fellow at work years ago who gained that nickname. He had no sense of humor about it later when he became a manager and someone called him that.

It was going to be a small 4 1/2 x 8 layout that I found in an old nsmag but my good freind that will be helping me with this said I would not be happy with it so I took the same layout and streched it out to 6x12 adding a bigger yard and a turntable with stubs at each end for future expantion.
As for period I was thinking early 50s, running both steam and diesel.

It will be a solid 6x12 should say is we finished the benchwork yesterday.
The center will be mostly scenic hills with a gourge and waterfall down the middle.The back tracks will be mostly hidden winding around the hills and over the gourge so reaching the middle "hopfully" will not be to hard other then the initial scenery work.

If you only need to reach the center for construction and rare maint...then it shouldn't be a problem. The far bigger problem would be if a car derailed in the center.

You should be able to build a nice oval layout...especially if you use the center as a scenic divider.

Sunday we set our first roadbed and track this was the easyest loop of them all as this was all one level. Now comes the hard part of figuring the folded loops and elevatoinsto clear the other tracks. It will be three levels folding over itself 3 times Fun Fun Fun .
I have been taking pics as I go and will try to put them on this thread if I can figure out how????

sign1 It is actually proounced rock. And it is a real name that my parents got from the bible. AKA St. Peter. At my H.S. graduation the principal pronounced it roach and everyone cracked up. He knew how to pronounce it correctly and did it on purpose. Didn't bother me.

Roch I do appologize,I should know better my last name ends in ch and everybody also pronounces it ck
