spankbird: great pics! Hmmmm... better get the chainsaws at the ready(warning: may contain violence!)

Here I caught Union Pacific 2-8-0 #618 with the Athearn Observation car waiting on the siding while CNW F3 4056, CN FA2 6750, and CNW RS-32 4242 haul a mixed freight, probably to the RRR's terminus. I know one of the cars is heading to the WSOR, while some of the others are heading to Atlanta.

Three new units.

My new Paragon AC6000 (Thanks Chris!)

Kato Dash 9. Disappointing. I'm reverting back to Athearn. Motor is loud, details are molded on & chunky, grabs are HUGE, AC unit looks like a Lego block (I.E. no grill, no fan)...

Genesis SD70MAC. Need to re-do the paint scheme, as the BNSF logo never made it on to this unit. As you can see its pilot is damaged, but thats an easy fix. The one in the background needs the opposite, BNSF logo, it's currently in BN paint.

jbaakko: Nice looking Modern units:thumb: the last shot, is that the schem they call executive scheme? Green and creme? Looks good.. I wish BNSF would have gone with that one..

We finally have Scottsburg lit up , now the fun begins of hiding the light your not suppose to see:eek:ops:, then dim everything back down to a more realistic level..

Since I don’t have any modeling photos ready yet here are some from the 1987 NRHS Convention held in Roanoke, VA

The J was pulling 22 cars and the A was pulling 50 hoppers. Norfolk Southern shut down their line from Roanoke to Radford and ran these two beauties side by side the whole way.

On the way back from Radford they double headed the steamers.

Great shots everyone! Tom I really like those proto shots. I have a DVD of the J and I find it amongst the most attractive steamers out there. On that note I thought I'd share this:

FieldHillabandonedsteamer001.jpg

This is the remains of a narrow guage engine that the CPR used to build the spiral Tunnels. It was so worn out that they stripped it of usable parts and left the hilk here, with it's tender nearby.

Here's my train that I took from Salmon Arm British Columbia to Lake Louise, Alberta in 1988. It was quite an adventure for a 17 year old at the time. I spent most of my time up in the Observation dome car. I remember it was raining that day so none of my pictures taken from the Dome turned out.

I worked at the Chateau Lake Louise back in the 80's and took the train from Banff back to Lake Louise every week while I was there and spent all the time up in the dome. The fare was $5.We always went to Field to buy Kokanee and would watch the trains going thru the spiral tunnels.

Great shots everyone!:thumb:

I see my steamer and Athern 50th aniversary car are popular! Unfortunently, this is the only other picture I have of the two together:
Picture_0465.JPG

the 618 should have gotten the lead, but a faulty signal at the last switch got it stuck here behind 4242. It will have to wait for 4242 to clear the previous switch so RRR 1116 can put the caboose on:
Picture_0463.JPG

Luckly, the 618's train is the railfan weekly, where railfans get to go on a round trip excursion on the RRR trackage, so the passengers aren't complainingsign1

No that it is a Class A #1218. When that thing went by the ground shook!

When we were there is 1987 they were looking over a Y6 to get it up and running but then NS cut their steam program and the A and J returned to museums.

Gus,
You're pretty much right about the under ground helix.
The Spiral tunnels are located between Field, BC and lake Louise, Alberta. Before the building of the tunnels the CPR had to contend with it's 'BIg Hill' that had grades of 4.5% It had 3 safety switches that, if a train comming downhill lost it's brakes they could be thrown and the train would be sent up a spurline to regain control. Going up required a number of pushers. I have a picture of the Royal train in 1901 with 10 Passenger cars and four locomotives pulling and pushing it uphill. There were a number of accidents and fatalities until the CPR completed the Spiral Tunnels in 1909.
To best explain the Tunnels, think of each as a Tehachapi Loop, but each inside a mountain. The two tunnels together for an almost figure
'8' configuration. The result was a grade reduction of 50% to 2.2%.
I unfortunetly do not have a picture that I can legally share but today's trains on the 'hill' are long enough that a train can enter the tunnel, climb the 'loop' and cross over itself as it exits, showing the engines over the tail of the train.

Sure is, BN's Executive scheme... I personally wish they had gone with the barf bonnet, its so ugly, yet perfectly original.
BNSF 9647

Can't wait to get one of the newer run Genesis SD70MAC's decorated like that.

Here is a couple more photos of locos at the steel plant where I worked. This is the 53, a GE 80 Tonner, parked beside #2 Open Hearth

And #52 in the diesel shop:

I'm not sure what the number of this one is, seen delivering scrap boxes to the charging floor of #3 Open Hearth:

Remember...it's for fun!
I still need to take some new pictures but here is one I don't think I've posted before of Hudson Cement. There is a hot air balloon lift off going on this morning in the Hudson Valley! (One of the balloons is covering an accidental gouge in my backdrop...the rest I added for effect) :)

i just picked this SD40T-2 up 4 hours ago:thumb: . its a snoot nose(123'' front hood), and will be the LAST tunnel motor i will buy:winki: . i already have installed an MRC sound decoder #0001643 in it:thumb: , and like a fool have started adding some of the "extras" i am putting on the outside of it, then i realized i should have taken a "before" pic:eek:ops: so i stopped and here it is:119: .

i plan on making this engine the KING of all my tunnel motors:winki: , i have TONS of extras i will be adding to it, and hope to have it weathered by tonight, though thats a lot to get done in a short time, we'll see how it pans out:119: .
