We had to have out lab mix put down this last week. She was getting agressive with people and ended up biting the mailman last week. We decided that having her around our 4 year old daughter was a risky proposition since she has even growled at my wife a time or two recently. We don't know why she got this way. Her shots were all up to date and she was never mistreated. I guess it was just her temperment. Either way, we did what we felt had to be done.

We hadn't planned on getting another dog right away but our daughter was asking lots of questions and wanting to know why she couldn't see "her" dog. We explained what happened to her as best as we could but she was still pretty upset.

To help take her mind off of it a little we went around to a couple of the pets stores. I thought about maybe getting her a guinnea pig or something she could watch roll around in an excersise ball and help take care of.

Instead we came home with this little guy. His name is Sparky and he is a 3 month old Shih Tzu. My daughter loves him and they've been playing non-stop since we got home.

For $450, this had better be the best dog I've ever owned......

:D

Well, I mailed off his registration papers today.

His official full name is now "Spartacus The Lionhearted"
I like "Sparky" better. :D

And I'll like him even more once we get him house broke.

That's a pretty cute new dog you got there. Losing a pet is pretty rough, for no matter what the cause. My sister had a dog that was pretty agressive towards people, but when it bit one of my nephews, that was it. There is no sense in taking the chance.

I agree.

My daughter is only 4 1/2 and would have no chance of defending herself against a full grown Lab if she had decided to turn on one of us. When she was younger she would just growl and bark. When she started actually going after people, it was time to draw the line. No rhyme or reason to it either. She wasn't raised to be mean or agressive or abused. She had a healthy diet and got plenty of excersise. I guess it was just her temperment.

At least this little guy can't kill us if he goes crazy.
