I hope you don’t mind that it is me again to start the WPF thread with two shots of this ATSF Geep running light after setting out a car at the Miller beer distributor.

Kevin, thank you :wave::wave:.

We all know the problem, that we only have a rather shallow depth of field when taking pictures of our models, even when using small apertures. Sometimes, it can be frustrating, if only a small area in your pics is really sharp and all the rest of your model does not show properly. Today I tried the freeware program CombineZ to solve this problem. The results are really convincing. I took the first picture with an aperture of f/18 and focussed on the front of the engine. As you can see, the brown boxcar in the back is not sharp at all. The distance between the engine and the boxcar is about 3 ft. – no chance to get the engine and the boxcar sharp at the same time, even with using the smallest aperture of the camera. Then I took 5 pictures of the scene without changing the position of the camera, focusing on different areas and used the software to combine the five photos. What a difference!

Thats awesome! How hard is the program to use. I know little to nothing about my camera. I do not know about apperatures and what they are, how to change etc., but I think you are the man to go to if I have questions.

Kurt: You can start them off all the time, with great shots like that! Excellent shots, the software really makes a big difference. Well Done:thumb:

Now that's more reading that I have to do:curse::mrgreen:

Mark....Great shot!:thumb::thumb::thumb:

I found this old shot....I don't know why, but I like all the diagonal lines....just another "happy accident"

Great shots so far guys. I'm figuring out my new (to me) camera so everything seems to have a slight orangsh tint but finally I can do some close-ups:

I agree Kurt! Start this photo thread off any time! :thumb: I'm impressed with the results of your photo program! I am resolved this year to get a better camera but for now will add this point and shoot photo of KP&W units on the high line while a PC Geep rests down below.

Great start to the thread, Kurt, and it looks like everybody's doing a good job of carryin' it on, too. ;):-D:-D

Some more rafty pics for Ralph. Can you believe they let this thing out on the main under her own power? Someone really got carried away with the weathering
Charlie

Stelco 83 never made it out to the mainline:
img026.jpg

But she did get rebuilt. I don't have a picture of her, but she looked something like sister 81 after the loco shop did their thing:
img023.jpg

Roller bearings on the trucks, rebuilt traction motors, rebuilt main generator and prime mover, and completely rewired. Many of these locos were later modified for remote control operation, too.

Thanks Deano:thumb::thumb:
I figured that "United Transfer" would be nice to see on it's own.....I was right. Great details and realistically weathered. It looks "right":winker::thumb::thumb:.

Thanks, my friend

Thanks for...

...posting all.

Ralph, I really like that scene. I never noticed the stone work inside the underpass before (can't wait 'till ya get a new camera) and the hill- reminds me of the old neighborhood in Manayunk.

And slekjr/Doc- one heck of a kit you guys got there.

Mark, beautiful shot. I love your close ups.
Steve, you are right, this picture has really got something about it ...
Glen, beautiful engine.
PWRR-2207
, the grass tufts are Silflor Prairie Tufts. They are a bit pricey, but it is amazing how much you get done with a package of them.
Ralph
, great scene. Looking forward to see some better pics of your layout with a new camera.
Charlie, I hope you still have a lot more of those prototype photos – I really enjoy them.
Deano, I concur with Steve – your United Transfer building looks just right. How about the other background buildings you planned for your layout, did you make any progress on them?
Wayne, interesting pics. Nice paint scheme on those Stelco switchers.

Thanks. The stone work is a relatively recent improvement. One of the helpful things about posting my pictures here is they provide an objective view of my layout and prompt me to want to make improvements.

As for the switcher kit... sign1

Oh, and thanks for the pic Charlie! :thumb:

Great shots guys!:thumb:

Here's my shot, although I don't know if I posted this before:
Picture_0321.JPG

Got the idea from the 5th place winner in an old MR photo contest. Also, I have NO clue how I got 4056's headlight on in this shot, because 4056's headlight doesn't come on when the engine isn't moving, and I have never taken a shot of moving engines, especialy when a moving engine will crah into another train!:eek:

Oh BTW, doc, what was Selco 81's final fate? I'm always interestend with engines with bizzare histories... :D

Great shots so far. Keep it up.

Don't have anything new right now. I've been working on structure lighting.

Here's something just to keep my hand in.

Wayne, NICE before and after shots of that switcher:thumb::thumb: .

Kurt, :eeki: WOW!:eeki: , OUTSTANDING SHOT!:thumb:

CNWman, you have some real neat stuff:thumb: , please forgive me for asking, but is there any way you could get some more light on your stuff/work? it would help to see the neat things you have a little better:winki: .

Jeffrey, GREAT night shot!:thumb:

Steve & Kurt, THANK YOU for the comments on United transfer:smilie: , but since you guys are good friends of mine, i am taking the complements with a grain of salt:toug::119: (its like when your young and your Ma says: "your the handsomest boy in the world"....yeah, right Ma:rolleyes: ) sign1

Kurt, i have the "west-end" to the point i can call it DONE(see first pic below), but i have totally been dragging my feet on the "east-side":eek:ops: . i have two of the East-side buildings CLOSE to being finished, and haven't even started the third:eeki::eek:ops: . Wayne made a comment in a post last week that really hit home with me:winki: , so i have once again started back on my structures, I'll post 'em when i feel there finished:thumb: .

**I put the last pic in simply because...well, what would a WPF thread be without one of my UP engines in it?:confused::rolleyes::toug::119::mrgreen:
