Has anyone besides me put lead weights in a couple of their train cars? Someone told me to do this when I bought my first set up to keep the trains from tipping off the track. All it did for me is slow everything down and come to a complete halt on any incline. wall1

Adding weight is not the right solution to a derailing problem, in most cases.

What kind of cars? Where do they derail? All the time?

Some details will help solve the problem.

I do agree with midnight and check for track problems. There is a recommended weight for rolling stock.

Adding weights to locos can help with track adhesion and control slipping, especially when starting or going up grades.

Ok I figured it would mess up my loco and I can not afford a new one.

As with most things in life, there is too much, just right and not enough weight. Hence the NMRA recommended practices.

If the cars aren't derailing, then remember: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
