It's strange how such a large part of the country is getting ice storms and snow while the southeast is warm and balmy. Hope you folks up north weather the ice storms safely!
That is strange. We're expecting a high in the 80's here today. Some years we're still mowing the grass at Christmas.

Hi everyone. Been a while. Still working on the house, traveling to see grand kids, fighting the snow and cold....Started out this past spring by putting in 4 feeder pigs, now it's 3 beef feeders....had a very busy summer with 2 new grand daughters (guess who's getting trains for Christmas???)!

Haven't really gotten anything done with my layout, kinda hung up on laying the track. Don't really know what I'm doing and can't find anyone with experience in the local area. Things I've learned from reading here are helping my son (who got out of the US Navy in Sept) build some dioramas for 3.5" action figures.

It looks like the storm has moved on and we still have electricity:thumb: On the noon news at one point they said there were 60,000 without power--mostly SE Iowa and SC. We ended up with .50 of ice and about 2" of snow, took me 20 minutes to scrape off my truck---that's no fun. I can't imagine what the agony must be in Oklahoma and Missouri, they really got hammered.

The Polar Express is under the tree and going strong, that's the only good thing I've enjoyed today:mrgreen: I work tonight so it's off to see the Rockette's in about an hour, those ladies are easy on the eye's:yep:

Stay warm and smile.

Chief--it's from Music Man. It's right at the beginning of the show and they keep singing "trouble, trouble, trouble, etc. and that rhymes with P and that stands for Pool"! Great show.

The rain continues and our temp is now up to 32, we now have .50 of ice on the ground. Wish it would all just turn to slush and then snow, much easier to deal with. All schools are closed, not delayed. Thank goodness no wind.

Jon

Doug--put on your seat belt, it's headed your way.

I love that movie!! Guys & Dolls too!!! :) :0

Oh we've got trouble.. Right here in River city!!!
and that starts with "T" and that rhymes with "P" and that stands for Pool!!!
--- as "The Music Man" was trying to convince the townspeople to start a band... so he could sell them instruments....

Too Cool!!!! :D :D :D :D

The Music Man is an all time great movie! Frank53, Don and Doug, thanks for the pics! Lots of great progress, really makes me itchy to get some more work done on my humble layout! Fortner Yard is especially nice! ;-)

Jeffrey, at least you can still get online, so do keep us up to date! TomPM and the rest, we had bad ice storms here in the last year and now KC MO has been hit with 1/2 inch again. So far, we have had mostly rain and a little freezing rain and sleet for the past week, but it got up to 52 today. We get a different weather than the areas around us, because of the river here at St. Louis. Hope all get to keep their power on this year!

We had our annual Christmas party at work at a place called Maggie O'Brien's. Great reuben sandwich, but the horseradish is talking back!

Here's more of an idea as to where this could be heading. I need to have a smaller building in place of the one I currently show in red:

Nice! Hey, I think I missed this if you already followed up, but did you fix that clearance on the top deck? I think you had a couple locos that were touching the retaining wall?

Good evening from a warm but wet Buckeyeland.

Every December this place gets real busy. Trying to get gifts in the mail to the relatives overseas.

Chief, I didn't know I was a burr under your saddle. I'm flattered. :thumb:

I feel very sorry for those hit by the ice. :winter1: We have been there and we don't want to do it again. :curse:

Yes Jim - I came upwith an absolutely ingenious solution to teh problem.

Using a infrared spectrometer with a left handed destablizing ray attachment, I solved the problem by only running locos on that level that will clear the wall.

Evening all!

Weird weather here. 60's this morning and then huge storms like in the spring, lots o' rain, and then cooling off again. Back into 50's by tomorrow.

Frank53 - your layout just keeps getting better!

I actually found time to clean out under my layout. Now I need to clean the top real well. If the dust were a lighter color I could call it snow!

Buckeye - I think the Chief likes having you as a burr in his saddle

Hope all are doing well!

:thumb: Personally, I would have used a second hand turnip transmogrifier, but I guess this would work too

What we need is a Lionel Smoking Dust Factory with Lights and Sound, so we could tell people that the dust is actually special Woodland Scenics MegaDust and we spent hundreds of hours placing each spec "just so"

I'm listening to a CBC radio program on development of the steam engine.
"Tonight on Ideas, it's The Story of Iron. Steam power was the brawn of
the Industrial revolution, but it was iron girders, bolts and rails that
made it all possible. Chris McGowan takes us to the English village of
Coalbrookdale where the story of iron began. That's tonight on Ideas at
9 (9:30 NT) on CBC Radio One. " (from the Hotsheet)
It's now a quarter to 10, and they're still just on stationary engines.
Probably available on internet. Not sure when part 2 is coming up.

I like the turnip transmogrifier too. I'm right handed and that left handed destablizing ray attachment would have given me difficulty. Speaking of turnips, I cooked some from the garden this evening. Good and sweet. :thumb:

Jon [and all], I met with the pool hall [he calls it Billards] guy. He wants to run the top of the line type place. Seems there are Billard leagues and etc. Says he will acept monthly reviews and if he has a bad rep place, we can close him down. Ex-Marine. Clean cut guy. We'll see.

Glad Jon missed the bad ice. Hope all of the gang here did.

Tanker, long time no see. Glad to hear from you. Always interested in the farming you do. I'm an old farm boy myself. Two new Granddaughters??? Wow!!!! :thumb:

They blew the weather forecast today. Got to 74 [still a record] but not into the 80's. A "backdoor" codl front moved in and they did not know it until it was here. Yes, what an excuse. Sun finally came out around 1 PM. Leaves stay damp all day. Fog tomorrow morning but they say [?] it will burn off rapidly and get to 79.

Off to bed. Gooooood night all.

Good Morning,

Looking forward to a nice quiet day with NO obligations. Made it into the theatre last night without any road problems, had two former students come up to me during intermission and chat, that's always fun.

Now that the PE is running under the Christmas tree I will put together the Christmas train downstairs, I think we've got about 20+ cars that we've collected over the last 10 years. I feel like I'm behind this month and that is going to change today, no storms/no obligations:thumb:

Thanks for the warm thoughts about our last ice storm, glad that's over.

Have a great day.
Jon

Good Morning...................
It's 39 degrees and raining. Going up to only 43 today. Rain suppose to stop. Going grocery shopping today and checking gas prices. Still very high. Not much time for trains. Busy.
Everyone have a nice day.

Good morning folks

I actually saw some sun this morning. It lasted about a half an hour. Temperatures are little on the mild side. It was 52 F on the way to work. By the time I got to work it was raining. Our high is supposed to be 55 F. Tomorrow we are supposed to get a wintry mix. I am scheduled to take a field trip down to Virginia, just outside of Washington to take a long at retractable median barrier gate on I-95. We are planning to install one or two on one our Interstates to help prevent what happened on I-81 in Berks and Lehigh Counties last Valentines Day when people got stuck on the highway for over 24 hours due to ice and snow. With the weather forecast I am not sure I want to drive 2-1/2 hours one way. I am hoping they reschedule it.

No modeling last night. I attended our Cub Scout District Roundtable. Tonight we have Cub Scout Den Meetings.

Depending on whom you listen to this weekend we could have anything from rain to 12 inches of snow. I am hoping that on Sunday I can get to the Greenberg Show. Finally we have one close to home. We have not been to a show in about four years.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning!

Fog as thick as pea soup this morning. Highs are to get up into the 80's this afternoon. Then, we'll be back down in the 20's by Sunday. Gotta love variety!

We have our staff Christmas party in about an hour, which basically means we'll eat ourselves into oblivion over the course of the day. What a way to go!

Hope your day is good and safe!

Morning. Forecasted thick fog did not make it. Cleared out in a hurry. Had early meeting with Progress Energy [old Carolin Power and Light until they bought Florida Electric and some others]. Got crew airhammering in front of house. Widow lady across the street suddenly wants natural gas to her house. Propane went so high. She should have done it several years ago when they ran the line and before the street was resurfaced. Now a patch. Pet peeve is patching nice roadways. Off to Town Hall and then back to get up leaves. Sun is out and warming fast. Later

' Morning all from a grey and cold Chicago - my last day in the office for December. I get to be taken out to a holiday lunch at a fancy Loop restaurant later today. Hope they serve sandwichs with horseradish like Brutus enjoyed.

Chief, our town just had one of those billiard hall / bar open up - a very classy joint, with food and drink. They have leagues, you can rent a table for a while too. I think you'll enjoy it ;)

Chuck, that bridge is an inspiration. I think the color you painted it is great. I am saving it to alternate on my desktop as wall-paper with one of Frank's steamer engines.

Mike, Guys and Dolls is a great movie - I have a book of Damon Runyon's writings - and some of his stories made into radio shows - he's quite a story-teller. Luck be a lady tonight - LOL.
