Hi, everyone

So... this is the Caboose thread. CNWman referred me to this. It's nice... roomy, yet comfortable. I should stop by every once in a while.:thumb: BTW, CNWman also told me something about an arguement involving grits. Any idea where I should look for that?

Back from the big meal. Steak, fried chicken [SOUTHERN that is], fried fish and fried fish. Did eat a big salad with that. Finished off with bannana pudding. Plenty of sweet ice tea. :thumb: But nothing beats a big bowl of hot GRITS with butter and some black pepper. announce1 But the Yankees love cream of wheat and hold up their little pinky while spooning it down. Later.

Evening to all.

Just switched to digital cable TV service today. The Mrs. waited all day yesterday, only to call and find out someone had canceled the call. Had to reschedule for today. Right in the middle of watching TV tonight. The picture goes away. Called Customer Service and they had no idea why it quit. After a few minutes on hold the rep came back on and did some magic and the picture came back. I love technology....when it works.

Also been doing battle with Waste Management - trash pickup. For over 15 years we have had Monday pick up. We pay our bill every quarter and they pick up the trash. For some reason they stopped taking our trash two weeks ago even thought they picked up 3 other neighbors in the cul-de-sac. We called and rep tried to tell my wife our pickup day was Friday and that they would send someone out he next day to pick up. Next comes and goes no pickup. Call again and rep goes over this same routine with us and says we are scheduled for Friday. Finally pick up on Wednesday. Friday comes we put out rolling dumpster, no one shows. Call again. So we put out trash this Monday, they pick up all but ours. Arghhh!!! We go round and round for two weeks when finally someone spoke to my wife yesterday and decided it is stupid for them to tell us to put out trash on Friday when all other neighbors are on Monday. We'll see if they finally get it right.

Take care,

Mitch

Mitch, get the phone service too - you can talk all you want to Chief and it doesn't cost any extra! Just remember that time zone! Chief, you are a real gentleman in person too - didn't even cuss me for calling so late!

Nice video Frank and pics Tom and Jeffrey, thanks for sharing!

Don- that is really great, be proud of your son!:thumb:

Cold today and for some reason we are having sleet and freezing rain, guess there is a warm air mass involved - great fun driving home from work in the dark. Lucky I put a bunch of sandbags in the back of the truck yesterday.

Had training today plus a party for my friend Dave Kempf who actually retired a couple years ago. He came back for a year on contract, paid his old salary but still drawing retirement too, and used the money to put a big addition on his house and stuff, so it was basically free! He's a good guy and very smart. Anyway, he paid off the work and decided not to renew the contract - going back to being a full-time retired. He said he is so busy being retired he barely has time for work!

Got my reindeer car - the last preorder item from earlier this year. Also got a few more pieces of gargraves flex track (phantom tinplate) and a gg operating section/uncoupler section with the uncoupler up at one end for in front of a lumber mill in the near future. No OT so plan to go to a TCA train show Saturday, pay my local dues too, and maybe also check out a store called Marty's that is apparently pretty close to my house. Then I want to work on the Christmas layout with kids, so need to go to Michaels. Finally I need to get back to working on the basement. I intend to put up a bunch of insulation. We'll see.

Hello all.....Enjoy reading postings and looking at the pictures. Here in SE Colorado we are having a cold mostly dry winter so far. Tomorrow is forcast for freezing rain, we'll wait and see.

I have a question.....Does anyone know of a good book that is pretty straight forward on how to repair train engines? Does one have to look for a specific manufacture or would most repairs be similiar (if that makes sense).

Reason: A few months back I started setting up a layout for my grandsone and me. I have gotten several different things from ebay to work on the setup and low and behold, I got some engines that look mighty fine on the outside but when placed on the track ....... NOTHING HAPPENS:eek:ops::eek:ops::eek:ops: They are like dummies....Like Me:mrgreen: Any and all information will be appreciated Ya'll
Thanks

I ran James for the first time last evening. He sure is a funny looking engine unlike his storybook namesake. Wheels too small and he's too short.

Jim, the new section begins on the curve of the switch - that is where I ended up putting an insulating pin in both the center and the closet rail - but I'm worried an engine moving through this curve into the new separately powered block shows a heck of a spark. That can't be good.

Doug - that's too bad about James! Hey are your transformers in phase? I think I read a thread somewhere about this problem before, you might want to do a search on it?

Frank: is it too late for suggestions on the track plan? That crossover in the photo, with the two RH switches: could you change to an RH and an LH -- put the LH in the curve beside the S6 section? or even one section into the curve? That would eliminate a lot of wiggle going through, but maybe you like to see them snake.
We went to the LHS today and came back with a Bachman On30 trolley for the mantel railway, to replace the HO one.
Took the cat about 30 seconds to get up there after we turned it on.

CNW: think you should check that the transformers are in phase.
What that means is that AC current is going up down up down... but if a transformer is plugged in backwards, or cross-wired to the track, the current goes down up... and this creates a short when you bridge the two sections.
If you don't have a polarized plug (on prong bigger than the other) you can turn one plug around and see if the reduces the flash.
If the plugs are polarized, I'm not sure; you have to check the wires to the track.

never too late, not quite sure if it will fit, but I'll take a look and I appreciate the suggestion.

Morning to All.

Cold here this AM about 19 degrees. Supposed to warm up this weekend. Today the Mrs. and I are going to Sight and Sound in Lancaster/Strasburg, PA to see the Miracle of Christmas show. Unfortunately no time to visit Choo Choo Barn or any other train related places. We will have dinner at Miller's Smorgasboard, so should not come home hungry.

Take care,

Mitch

YANKEE INVASION!!!!! YANKEE INVASION!!!!!!!!!!!
Radar shows snohio but melting and then becoming light rain that is freezing on bridges and overpasses. Some sleet reported. Suppose to end in a few and actually get to 50 degrees today.

Morning. Up early as oldest dog wanted to whine and keep me awake. Now he is asleep. As soon as it warms up, headed east to Mom's. Need to get some banking done for her and pay her taxes. Got District 3 Wildlife Enforcement Christmas dinner tonight. Church's Senior meal tomorrow at noon. Too much food.

Floyd, what kind of trains are you talking about? O gauge? Give us some info.

Well, I'll drink another cup of coffee. Get ready and go to Town Hall and then east. Later
