Whew! Now that I got the Hood done, I started JSC 1:400 HMS Norfolk. I have to tell ya, I was kinda wiped out by the Hood. However, Yesterday I started my Road to Recovery and got hull done on the Norfolk. I almost forgot how enjoyable 1:400 was.

Seriously, the Hood took a lot out of me. It was all-in-all pretty stressful. I didn't know if I was going to find fatal errors in the hull that wouldn't be found until it was too late. It also tested my patience to a high degree. Sure, it looks cool in a museum sort of way and I had my punching of fists in the air, but it didn't give me that fun factor that the smaller scale gave me. Add the fact that a 1:200 battlecruiser is uncomfortably huge, and that takes away some of the charm of card modeling IMHO. I have other 1:200 scale ships on hand, and the Halinski Scharnhorst has my interest, but I will definately hold off for a while; I've had my fill for the time being, hehehe.... I am just thankful that I was able to follow through with the build...

The Norfolk is a nice, easy, quick kit to get into, exactly why I love 1:400! I'll post more pictures as I work the ship. .....And thanks!

I saw your destroyers, the NC and your Dreadnought

will watch your report with great interest, because I never did the HMS Norfolk

Thanks everybody!

I'm not too happy with how the funnels turned out. The cardboard I copied to was a bit on the thick side .

They should look better when trimmed and painted anyways, hehehe.... I have them here just sitting on the ship.

Hilarious! I wasn't paying attention to the diagram and accidentally glued on the superstructure backwards! Luckily, I was able to cut it off and turn it around. Silly me....

The funnels are somewhat ok. They look a lot better in person, fortunately. I also found that the railing on the upper superstructure is too short.

After getting a good dose of strained eyes from repeatedly switching between college hoops on the TV and the ship, I was able to get some work done on the ship last night. I sure hate torpedo tubes!

I had some time today to continue working the ship. I got the gun directors and the secondary guns done. I mentioned it before in regards to the USS North Carolina, but I compared the HMS Dreadnought to the Norfolk. It continues to amaze me just how much ship development went in 35 years! The Norfolk is quite a bit bigger and with it's directors, would have no problem taking out the Dreadnought just in shear volume of hits. I sure love this hobby just for the education alone.....

Yay,

I finally finished the ship tonight. I'm really happy how it turned out. No real sticking points to it at all, so it's a good ship for an older kit. The photos don't show much of the rigging I did on it, but it's there, hehehe....

Now to see what's next in my stack of ships.....
