Frank 53 . . . You seem to enjoy the building so much, I wonder, will you be satisfied once it is done? Or, will you start over and build a bigger one? and on and on....

Dennis

Thanks Dennis. However, this is the only available space in this house in the land of no basements. I figure we will be here at least another five years, which if I estimate correctly, will give me a couple of years to enjoy the layout after I quasi-finish it - whch I figure is going to take at least two more years.

After that, we'll probably downsize with the kids gone. The best I will probably be able to do would be a three car garage and take over one bay.

If I had my way, I'd be moving west - Wyoming or Idaho or Montana or the Dakotas are all calling me - but I'm not going to be ready to retire then, and I don't know that I'll be up to starting a new business in an unknown land at 58 or so. Seeing as how I have been working for myself for almost 30 years now, I don't know that I would be of the mindset to give up my working independence and get a job.

Glad to hear everyone has good health news! And the pics of the kids are all terrific. Doug the photo of your son in the leaves, really brings back a rush of memories. I could remember the smell of the leaves from that pic.

Frank when is layout going to bet a feature?

I didn't get my wiring done this weekend, got involved with some of those invitations that went like.... I'm going to go to a movie, do you wanna go?? Then on Sunday, "I'm going to the Antique Market after church. You don't HAVE to go if you don't want to, but I wanna go." So my weekend was pretty much taken up.

Did work on the layout tonight for a couple of hours. Wanted to start with the AC power source. Hard wired the AC to a duplex SPST switch w/pilot light. Going to put in a second switch at the opposite end of the layout as a "Panic Button". Got the first one in, and wire routed to the second switch. Will finish tomorrow.

Re: the movies, saw Mr. Maqorium's Wonder Emporium (G) IMHO - eh, not much of a story, some good special effects, don't expect it to be around long. Then, saw American Gangster (R) - Really GOOD!! Based upon a true story, 2 1/2 hours long, and was disappointed when it ended.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!

Great photos of the children everyone! Mine's been playing with the crane...and the Sesame Street characters from the Easter eggs.

Prayers for you and your family Dennis.

Great news RT!

Welcome Colin!

I'm going in for bloodwork to check cholesterol, and stuff today...difficult remembering to fast for 12-hours prior.

No trains today...permanent layout tore up for final wiring, and Christmas layout awaiting trestles, and bridge abutments. Bride leaving for outlet stores shopping junket. Hhhmmmm...they don't sell trains there...

Hello everyone,
It's Colin here from CTT. I'm typing this late as I should be asleep, but for some reason, I cannot. I'll update all my info later.

First off-----Prayers for your mom, Dennis. From what I have seen so far we have many good photographers here. I especially like the photo of the Reading RS3. Jeffery, I love that photo of the two locos side by side. RT, by any chance do you have an elevated line that you use to run your trains? Sorry if you already told everyone.

Well, good night everyone.
I'm working on one it will be when done 7'X8'x4'X(45 degree curve here)4'(45 degree curve here)3' (aprox measurements when done can give exact but room is 7'X8' and need to allow for door.)

Good morning folks

It was 43 F and raining when I left for work. High today with a 50-50 chance of rain is 53 F. I was a little late getting out as a result of having a hard time getting up because of the night time cold medicine I took before going to bed, and an argument with the toaster that would not surrender a pop tart.

No modeling last night. We took my daughter out to get her Christmas dress which required a trip to Newark, DE. Funny how one store near us had nothing but the same store in Delaware had three dresses that we liked and bought.

Dennis your Mom is in our prayers. Chuck Glad to hear that all is going well for your wife.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning from sunny central Alabama. It's a very nice day today, temps should get into the upper 70s. Like Chief, we're supposed to get rain for Thanksgiving, but considering the drought, I don't mind a bit!

Chuck, glad your wife continues to do well. Dennis, keep us posted on your Mom.

Have a good day, all!

Morning from a warm and misty Chicago where I spent last eve. cleaning the basement from a few weeks of small visitors. Ran the trolleys in the background. Today's garbage day so I wanted to throw out some broken things.

Don, leaf raking with the youngest was fun this year. We have to bag them in very tall paper bags, so we'd fill one and I'd pick him up to put him in the bag to tamp the leaves down. He got a kick out of it. Then he got the good idea to put the bag down on the ground and just scoop the leaves in... I finally ran out of gas and have tasked the middle boy to cut the grass - and remaining leaves.

Bought up the snow-thrower so it must be almost winter. Still musing about how to route a 2nd main line...

Hello All!

Colin- Nice to see you join us here.
Frank53- I like the photo of the Guy hawking newspapers on the street corner.
Don B- Looks like you'll have to hang a sign on your layout that says; "Do not disturb, layout wiring in progress."

Take Care all & have a nice day.:thumb:

Hi GIZ,
Another rainy day here at 37 this morn to get to 52?
FRANK53 nice photo of the guy selling papers. he needs a paper bag, the cloth ones that had padding on the sholder strap. I had two bags when I delivered papers back in high school. Did it in the mornig and afternoons. Had over 100 customers. I don't know if kids still do this?
All have a good one.

DOUG,
Our woman paperlady is out at 445am. She uses a older chevy that the muffler has a leak in it. Can here her half a mile away. Did you walk or use your bike when delivering? I did both, Bike was a challenge with two bags.

Good afternoon everyone.
My mom got me out early today because she needed help with a new chandalier (sp?). We just got it home, and now she is waiting for the electrician to come and install it. I would do it if I had the supplies, and also if I had a good knee.

Thankfully, tomorrow is a real half day, and I get out at 11am. So tomorrow will be a quick day.

Have a good afternoon everyone.

Afternoon everyone. No report on Mom yet. I left a message on Dad's cell phone, but figure they were getting information from docs. I will call doc directly, but don't want to get in the way of his work. He is a friend, but I know what it is like to have to work on a family member of a friend....can be a headache. Anyway, I will update when I know.

Colin, great to have you here. These seem like nice folks who were here already, and the good guys from the other place too.

Dr. John, Thanks for the prayers. I had posted on the other forum about a incident we had with the movie. One of the camera men was killed in a car accident and so we postponed the week's filming for funeral services, etc. Sad case, he and his wife were expecting their first child. While it saddens us, we know we have to focus on His work and make sure we do this right. I have a demonstration with the director today to see what the best method of one of the scenes is. Then, we resume filming on the 26th.

God Bless,
Dennis

Dennis, I'm so sorry to hear of the death of that camera man. I'll be praying for his wife and family. Also remembering your Mom today.

Spent a couple of hours with my Mom today so Dad could go to the dentist. Her Alzheimers is getting progressively worse and she is in a definite decline - sleeps about 16 to 18 hours per day, then just sits in wheelchair without saying much. I'm thankful she recognized me today.
