Hello all!
Its time for me to pick a new subject. I was gonna do the aliens pulse rifle but someone requested I do an armor build. I figured I will doa build on the one my buddy Yaniv sent to me a while back!

Halinksi is new ground for me and I am actually going to cut into the book on this one. The last model I purchased I scanned and built. I wasnt all that happy with the quality when I was done so I figured I would try it! Maybe it will help me pay more attention to detail knowing I have only one shot at it......

Here is Charlie's review on the model

Oh yeah, and as usual I am a sloooooooow builder so dont expect it to be done quickly like Johnny :)

I am gonna do a bit of web research and link to a few pics of the real thing in the first post as well. Give me inspiration :)

Had to attach a few pics to the post - hit my limit above ;)

Also how come no one ever takes pics from the back? Anyone have any?

Nice choice Chris!
Maybe you should check to see if you can get some laser cut treads.
It will save you a few hair follicles!

If the cost is low enough maybe I will. Likely not though... Wasnt there someone on here selling custom requests before? I forget who that was....

Yes there was but you don't want to pay to have them custom made if you don't have to.
I checked at papermodelstore.com but they don't have any for it.
A set of treads would likely cost around 20-$25 for this tank anyway.

I wish you luck on them. That is a lot of cutting.
You could cut a few treads, every now and then, to divide it up a little.
That will help you to maintain your sanity, or what's left of it anyway. hehehe

I just wanted to point out that I have no idea what weight paper they used in this thing but the main model is printed on paper that feels heavier than the 110 lb I get from wal-mart. Could be wal-mart is cutting corners and its only 109 lb heh heh

Hey Chris!! What a nice choice of tank!!
I'm really giong to follow this very thorough, so please post a lot of pics during your build!

The guy who made tracks is called Ortin over at kartonbau

I have completely stopped building out of scans.I did that twice and will never do it again.
Now I always build out of the original, and do scans only of parts just in case....

I will try to take many! I tend to forget though.....

Second! and I vowed to never do treads again - I must be crazy :) I did the free tiger II tank I found on the net ages ago. I will see if I can dig up a pic. A buddy is displaying it at work now :)

How about:

Panzer II Ausf.C (PzKpfw II Ausf.C) Walk Around Page 1

Walk Arounds

I think it could be argued that the grey colour on the Halinski Pz IIC is too light - RAL 7021 was a very dark grey.

I agree based on the pics I have seen the color is a bit light. Thanks for the links!

Since this is the much more the same tank as the "luchs" ,panzerII, you might be able to use the same tracksI'm not sure of the difference between ausf C and ausf L....I'm no tank man :)

Sorry but no - the Pz IIC tracks were centre driven - the Pz IIL tracks were driven from extensions on the edge of the track links.

I think the hull is narrower on the IIC and the suspension is completely different.

LOL there you see! I have no clue what I'm talking about.I just assumed since both were panzer II and by that they was something similar.

Ok, I got everything laminated. I must say this kit has tons more laminated stuff than I am used too. A full sheet of .5 mm and 2 1/2 sheets of .8 mm

Question on the tracks. Each piece I cut out is an individual link. I am tempted to color the entire back of the sheet with a sharpie black to hide any misfolds.... also what have any of you used to hook the links together? I was thinking of florists wire painted or colored black with a sharpie. I was hoping for a way that left each link free moving but I dont want the pins holding the links together to slide out. Ideas? I think Johnny has a link tutorial in one of his threads out there somewhere. I should find that and make it into a PDF if I can locate it.....

I've used bamboo skewers sanded down to <1mm thickness as link pins. It doesn't take long to sand the skewers down with power drill and decent sand paper - gets hot though.

The advantage is that paper->wood is easy to glue and won't move. Paper to wire gluing is much more problematic. Whatever colouring you use on the bamboo won't just flake off like it does on wire.

Charlie

so to keep things free moving I could glue the skewer to the outside og each link and leave the middle not glued to the skewer

= - = the minus is one link that joins up to the = of the next link. Make sense?
Thanks for the skewer tip! I wonder how toothpicks might work right out of the box... :)
