Railview Model Railroad Associates is going to have an open house this Sunday, Oct. 21, from 10am to 5pm. Railview is located in Markham, Ont., literally a stone's throw from my office.

Their address is 570 Alden Road, Unit 2b in Markham, right next to the CNR York Sub. The new George's Trains will also be open during the show. The late Dave Morgan was a member of this club, so I'm especially interested to see their layout.

Apparently, their HO layout is huge, showing parts of Toronto, right through to Bayview Junction and out to Paris, Ont.

Since I got to know Dave Morgan and have been impressed with his work, and since this layout is so huge and close to my office, I'm very keen to see it. Just thought I'd mention it here and see if any other Gauge members are planning to go!

Cheers,
Rob

It's also the Woodstock Model Train show this Sunday. I guess your report answers my question as to whether or not George's will be at the show. :)

George's Trains has a new store almost immediately next to the Railview club, so it would be easy to open. I also know that George's often has booths at various train shows, so they still could open one at Woodstock, if they have enough staff? Rob

There is a chance George's will be at Woodstock - if not - they could be at Ancaster on Nov 11th.
I'll be at Woodstock looking for some N Scale goodies as it is a couple minutes down the highway from me.

I had no time to go to the Woodstock show, but that's ok, I had no $$ to spend either. I have heard that there will be a Niagara Falls model train show Oct 28. Let me do some digging and see if I can find some more details...

I went to the Railview open house in Markham and it was excellent. I was really impressed by how clean and polished (i.e. professional-looking) everything was. The huge layout showed Toronto, Milton, Campbellville, Burlington, Hamilton, Bavyiew Junction and many other southern Ontario locations in the 1950s. Very impressive!

At each station/town, a sign would be posted showing prototypical 1950s pics and then you could see how they modeled the area in HO right above it. The sign also told viewers what sub-division they were looking at and which was east or west on the track.

I could post some pics later if anyone is curious.

Cheers,
Rob

A few pix uploaded

OK, here are a few pics, most from the Toronto / Spadina area of the layout and the last one is from the Toronto / Strachan Ave. area.

I definitely want to see their layout again because there was so much to take in. They said they were planning another open house in the spring.

Wow, love that old Canadian Scheme with that green and yellow!
The layout is looking good!

Thanks! Yes, I too like the CNR green & yellow scheme but I also really like the old maroon and grey CPR livery as well. Somehow, they seem classier and more appealing than today's colours!

Cheers,
Rob
