The City of Phoenix just passed a law making it illegal to text message while driving. That happened after a young girl hit another car head on while she had been text messaging. Neither driver made it. The driver that hit that train got lucky. A pity though that he probably messed up the train a bit in the process.

Oh yeah, the Arizona legislature debated this past session to pass a law against drivers text messaging, but thought it wasn't important enough to vote on it.

Sometimes I fail to see why we need to specify every single way you can (in this example) drive like an idiot... Don't the dangerous driving laws cover all these scenarios without having to tell us exactly what not to do, or change every year to keep up with technology (both of which are impossible to do, by the way).

This falls into my...

..."Man, I love stupid people!" tickle file.

I read the title of the thread to my wife. She giggled like I did when I finished reading. She apparently enjoys stupid people too. They're so entertaining when they're trying to be all important and stuff- you know, texting, celling, selling, etc.

has nothing to do with this, well kinda, but I looked on my fone bill that just came in the mail and it said I sent 8,953 txts last month!!! and most of those were to my girlfriend, thats what seeing her all day and then txting eachother all nite till 3:30-4 in the morning does hahahaha Good thing we have unlimited txting, that could have been the most expensive fone bill ever sign1sign1

What in the world...

...was texting invented for anyways? I don't see any use of it myself, really. I was offered enough money for a cell phone once, but most of it went into my train table instead, the rest for my savings for my RS-32.

The way things are in the U.S., if the law does not prohibit something, it is legal. I don't think we even have "dangerous driving" laws here. Probably the closest thing to a "dangerous driving" law here in California is the basic speed law that sets the speed limit on unmarked roads (roads without speed limit signs) at 55 mph or a speed that is safe for current road conditions. The governor here just signed a bill into law making it illegal to text message while driving, but I don't think it takes effect until after Jan 1.

Well they can pass all kinds of laws that forbid phones & texting. That will not keep some fools from doing it anyway. The only way to stop the phone & text use from a automobile is to put some type of cutout devise in the automobile. If the auto is moving the phone will not work!
You must pull off to the side of road and stop to use phone.
Well that will not happen very soon, so be on the lookout for phone and text users while driving. They are in a differant world while they talk or text.

I refuse to answer or use my cellphone while I'm driving. As for text messaging, I have no use. Leave me a message, I'll get back.

Make ya wonder how the world got along without cellphones 10 years ago.

In South Africa it is illegal to use your cell phone AT ALL while driving- even for sending SMS's. As mensioned earlier, you do still get people using their phones, tisk tisk.

This reminds me of an incident when I was quite young.

One evening I heard on TV that it was illegal to drink and drive. The next day my dad was drinking Coke and I said to him that he is not allowd to drink and drive because it's illegal and the police are gonna catch him. Aah the innocence that comes with being young!
