Stolen models

The shortly held first US Model Railroading Convention in Rodgau (near Frankfurt) / Germany

was ended with two stolen models of a fine weathered Marklin Big Boy #4013 and a Lionel veranda gasturbine loco #61, all HO-scale.

If everyone find these models in auctions, in Ebay or other offers please let know me, also pm is welcome. Thank you very much for your help and all hints.

i didnt notice your link in my first post and just read it,are those REALLY horst meirs locos from the recent MRR mag! thats a serious coincidence if it is!i really hope whoever owns them gets them back.--josh

i have a friend here who is in a ton of american train forums i will pass this along to him with the pics in the event he or one of his friends may see them at one of the american shows.
i realy hope he gets them back they are very nice peices

Jeepers creepers, Those arn't small models either! Hope they catch the dude who took them. When I still worked at the model train shop I used to see locos go into peoples pockets, so this doesn't shock me.

He must be a real idiot, because all of us model train guys are connected some way or another, one of us ARE going to recognise those.

A modeler is in the hobby for the fun of it and to practice their skills. They take pride in what they do. I really doubt that anyone would steal these to run them, and take pride it the fact that they did. No, I'd be more inclined to think they stole them to sell to a private collector somewhere. I wouldn't think that except so many valuable paintings and pieces of jewelry disappear, only to turn up on someone's private collection. Why not valuable trains too?

I wish them the best at recovering them, I'm sure if anyone sees them, they'll know who to get a hold of.

Well, unless those models came out weathered, the person who thinks they are valuable is wrong, they've lost more than half their value, unless he can restore of course, but still.

Unfortunately, no matter how good the weathering is, unless a model comes out weathered, most people prefer a model without weathering, even in small amounts.

i wouldnt say that so fast there MH,on modeltrainsweathered.com the administrator weathers freight cars and engines and he sells cars for around 80.00$ a peice and engines for almost twice there value ( ).so unless that engine was some rare collectible,itll probably bring more weathered.--josh

Think back a year or 1&1/2 years the Marklin museum was broken into & a lot of stuff was stolen. Same with Live steam in the UK some good quality locos & rolling stock have been stolen.
I looks like made to order theft, really is hitting the model railway scene,
or there are organized druggies out there looking to resell at $5-10 just to get a fix.
On the tv this week they showed a set-up (expose) at a national chain of pawn shops, a girl shows up with a brand new DVD player in original box & unopened! the person in the shop asks for ID she gives him "her" drivers licence (ie photo ID) problem is the drivers licence belongs to someone else! Eye colour wrong, height wrong, weight wrong, face wrong etc.
No problem he offers her 1/4 of the price & she accepts, item goes into stock at the same price it was in the supermart next door...wall1
cops not called to check for stolen goods, nothing.
fleabay or other sites may have the locos on offer just before xmass, hoping people have forgotten about them. Even if the owner contacts fleabay goodluck even our cops can't do anything with fleabay & its silly rules.:curse:

Guess I shouldn't shoot my mouth off so quickly, and I guess I was comparing ''everyone" to my friends locally, of which I have many.
