I was in the middle of a search and came across a pretty neat thread on the card modelers forum. What is your Desktop Image? I mean, since were all model railroaders here, each one of us has probably got an astounding railroad shot on their desktop right:mrgreen:?? While I was over there, I found one I liked so much already being used by one of the moderators that I decided to make it mine as well. Here's mine... let's see yours!

That is a great photo! My desktop at home has my favorite beer, and my desktop at work has a young lady I am particularly fond of :) I gues I am not a true train nut!

Sorry my desktop is full of time, weather, earthquakes and satellites. About 5 or 6 years ago I found XPlanet and I haven't had a desktop picture since.

My screen saver, on the other hand, is my favorite 5 or 6 thousand photos from Railpictures.net and that grows at fast rate.

Nomad - Hit Shift-Print Screen and then open your graphics program and press paste.

Well Scott, I followed your instructions, but the part about my "graphics program" left me stumped.

Here's the picture anyway, minus all those little cryptic images. They'd be mostly floating in the empty sky. ;) :-D

Since the desktop image on my Mac mini is not my own, and it wouldn't be appropriate to post another's to the forums, you'll have to settle for just my Macbook desktop:

Edit: Nevermind, it censored out a "naughty" word in my URL.

doctorwayne- Sorry I wasn't completely clear about that. You can use paint, but I think that only makes BMP's. Most people use photoshop or paint shop pro. But you could also use GIMP. Also, I haven't used a Mac since college so I can't remember how to do it there.

EDIT: I just checked and paint will save a jpg so you can just hit Shift-Print Screen, open up Paint, press Ctrl-V and then save as .jpg

Maybe I'm not either as my desktop image changes sometimes on a daily basis. More often than not though, it has something to do with trains. My image before this was of a ranch up near Spokane, WA that I wished I could afford. At 1.75million, it's highly unlikely I'll ever be moving into that place!

Sorry my desktop is full of time, weather, earthquakes and satellites. About 5 or 6 years ago I found XPlanet and I haven't had a desktop picture since.
That is an awesome image! I briefly visited XPlanet (I think it was the right site) and found some things but nothing as neat as the one you've got. That kind of stuff is right up my alley... weather, earthquakes, satellite images, etc.

This jpg is what I have been using for my desktop for some time now, without my desktop icons.

Beautiful shot. Is that your layout?

I was going to say, I thought I'd seen that one before! I still love them colors.

Here's mine currently at work. One of the weekly pics from Railpictures.
I've always like those long exposure shots' If you like that one, you probably would like this one as well...

It's looks like a highway right up into the sky!

great thread trainnut---nice pictures everyone---here's the image on my computer at work
Somewhere on here I remember you telling the story behind that shot. Great quality for such an old picture. Isn't it ironic that the more technology progresses the less resolution our pictures have?

Here's mine. I took it at Railroad Days in Omaha last summer.

Gotta love those F units.

Allright, now this is probably going to date me... who's that? It looks a little like Phoebe from friends but I don't think so. I think the last Hollywood Hotty I was enamored with was Brooke Burke. Geez, that was like 6-7 years ago.

Hey TrainNut, where can I get that desktop image? I need that!
Right here my friend, right here...

As always, another great picture from your layout!

That must mean that you've got a widescreen monitor. I bet that image must really look sharp on your screen!

I love that site but it's been a while since I've visitied. I guess it's time to go and check out all the new images!

Thanks all for your contributions. This thread on the card modelers site seems to be very popular and I can only hope that this one keeps growing and growing as well!

Ok, it's not train related. Heh.

My other hobby is RC Aircraft. I was in the right place at the right time with my camera on and ready when the Canadian Air Force Snowbirds did a fly past of the Canadian National Aviation Museum a few years ago. This fly past was done straight at us, and at about 300' altitude. Quite noisy, and way awsome. I did get a few more pics, but this was the best one.

Regards,
...jim
