Yeah, it's old, but it was a fun build...

I have had this old Tyco "Loew's Theather" kit for it seems like ever, and today, after I went to lunch with my fiance, I got bored. I had been staring at this kit in my closet every time I grab one of my work shirts, so, since I have been gone away from home for so long, I finally decided "what the heck" and sat down to assemble it.

It took me about 8 hours to build, but the relaxation was more than worth the evening spent building it. I wanted something to do to unwind as Alicia napped on and off for the day and so I put my little folding lap table in the middle of my tiny living room, assembled all of my modeling tools and several colors of acrylic paints, rounded up all of my glues, X-acto's and sprue cutters and files, and went to work.

I had only planned to spend a couple of hours working on it and then do something else productive, like laundry or unpacking, but, you know how it usually ends up....

For an old kit, I think these things are a joy to build all these years later. Don't ask me what the heck I'm going to do with it, I have no place for it on the current layout, but, I dunno. For now, it'll sit in my little curio cabinet.

I haven't added the marquee signs and movie posters, as I don't know where this building will end up. I was thinking of "Blazing Saddles" since it is my favorite movie, but that dates whatever layout I put it on (if I ever do) at 1974. My layout is 1962, so that is out. When and if I ever do, I'll add the marquee signs and posters, until then, it'll just sit in one of my display cabinets.

I love those old Tyco kits. I got the Burger King, still want KFC, Pizza Hut, some of the downtown buildings, Howard Johnson's, the car dealer (Really want that one), ect...

Now I'm AMP'd
I had that one when I first got into HO scale back in the '70's.
Unfortunatly, it was taken out by some "Salutes" a few years later.

Nice work!

I found one of these kits at a train swap meet and put it together, then decided to illuminate the marquee a few years later. What a project that was!

I do hope you can find a place for the theater on your layout. It is an 'attention-getter.'

1974 or later...
RHPS (Rocky Horror Picture Show) still plays at matinees and night showings to this day. Mongo is a cult hero so why not have it on the marquee in say 1985

Nice work there.

Oh, and who said you could borrow my Cobra.

Wow, what all UP steamers do you have in there? I know I saw at least one Challenger and one Big Boy...

I have a Western Pacific Big Boy model, but it's not in that cabinet. In there is a NKP 2-8-4 that is soon to be repainted to Pacific Northern as an excursion engine, a WP 4-8-2, a UP Greyhound 4-8-4 by Bachmann (Old one, but runs like a top), and a WP 2-8-0 by IHC (Piece of doo-doo) and a Tyco 0-4-0 that was given to me by a friend of mine. I had a Rivarossi 2-8-8-2 in there, and the tender is still there, but I disassembled the engine to clean it up and restore it and have no idea how to re-assemble it. I don't have any Challengers, but that's wishful thinking sign1 (I'd like to eventually get one of the Athearn 3985 models complete with Jolly Roger Flags).

I only have about a dozen steamers, most of my fleet is diesels from WP and subsidiaries.

My layout is set in 1962 and my WP collection is mainly 1975-1982. My new dream layout is 1975-1982, but likely will never get built (unless I buy a house which won't happen any time soon). That one will be WP and double decked. I already have the plans for it. I build Pacific Northern stuff in the eventual hope to join a modular club later on or on the dream layout if it ever gets built. I also have the "Arlen Texas" small switching layout that I'd like to build that I believe I have already posted plans of) that is centered around the fictional town of Arlen Texas from "King of the Hill". That thing will get built in the next couple of years once I move out of this apartment and have a spare bedroom to build it in.

I had originally thought of putting the RHPS on the marquee as well, but then again, it dates the layout it's on and didn't leave me the option of using it on my current layout even if I could find a space to cram it in. Since that layout (California North Eastern) is 1962, *If I do* put it there, it'll likely have Elvis Presley's "Girl's, Girl's, Girl's" in the marquee.

Use a "dab" of rubber cement on the posters and marquee. Then you'll be able to peel them off and change them without too much trouble.

Hmmm... Propane deliveries to Strickland Propane? ;)

Yep, two track spur.

Also have Vagner Outdoor Products, Larson Pork Products, Thatherton Fuels, Mega-Lo Mart Distribution Center, Alamo Beer, the VFW hall, Peggy's Sugarfoot BBQ, etc.

Lemme see if I can find the link to the plans.

EDIT: Here's the layout I have planned for Arlen Texas:

That sounds like a good idea. I do like James Bond Movies, although, Roger Moore was always my favorite James Bond.

I remember sitting in the Theater watching many of those. How The West Was Won and Lawrence Of Arabia were memorable AND they had trains in them.

You need to at least model hank's house. At least the alley with Boomhouer, Bill and Dale all standin' round the cooler. Maybe Cotton hollerin' at "Hank's Wife".
