I did the Seran Wrap trick last night. Well, it worked. Now, when I pulled the buildings back up, there were a few spots where the ballast came up too, but not all that bad. I think I didn't allow enough drying time.

I had also put "mock" columns where the silo columns sit on the cork. I coated then with vegetable oil, then ballasted-sanded around them. This morning, I cut around the fake colums with an exacto, and they came right out. And then the structure fit right in. Woohoo!

So, overall I am not completely happy with the technique, but I'll deem it "acceptable". Once I get the structures finished, I can go back and do some touch-up, adding ballast/sand/ground cover to hide any imperfections. For now, I am able to lift the structures off the layout so I can work on them.

Maybe some pics this afternoon if I can figure out how to use my wife's camera.

Here's some pics. Nothing special, but acceptable until years from now when I have the buildings totally detailed. Then I'll glue some more dirt/ballast/ground cover in place against the buildings.

And is it Seran or Saran?
