Mac Users?

I guess I'm done model railroading for a while. My six-year-old iBook died a few weeks ago so last night I made the trek to the Apple Store in Ann Arbor last night for a new base model Macbook and a second generation iPod nano on closeout. I spent most of last night getting everything set up to my liking and now that I'm up and running... wow. This system brings computing to a whole new level. So, are there any other Mac users out there in Gauge-land?

I am, but unfortunately I don't have even enough to go buy a Mac Mini....So I'll stick with this G4 400 for a bit longer...

Mac user here as well.

I was an Apple Service tech at an Apple Specialist in New Orleans for 4 years, and have a gone through a couple generations of laptops and desktops. I think my Apple certifications finally expire this year (no longer due service work).

Currently I have a MacBook Pro, a PowerBook G4 for the wife, and a Intel Mac Mini for misc use. Also have an ipod nano, ipod mini, and an ipod photo.

Got an old Powerbook G3 lying around someplace too that's not working anymore.

I don't have a Mac computer, but I have a 30 Gig ipod that was on sale for just the thing itself, and the price was just over what you'd get for an 8 gig w/ all the stuff.

Yep. Mac user here, and don't think I could ever buy a windows machine again. But when I head to my desk at work, I need to remember that secret code "CONTROL ALT DELETE" at least once a day...

I guess I forgot to tell what else I have!

In addition to the new Macbook (that I'm using right now), I also have an original G4 Mac mini that's due for some upgrades, a dead iBook Dual USB from 2001 (that you'll probably hear more about in a private message), and a PowerMac 9500 tower that's got a G3 card in it to be used as a file server... someday. I'm also going to get in a few weeks another iBook that I think just needs a new hard drive to dedicate for railfan use.

Hate my mac mini

Hate Mac. Got talked into it after HP laptop died. Sure, I get no viruses, but nobody told me how incompatable mac was with PC software, etc. Nor that I'd have too drive an hour away to get overpriced mac stuff, etc. Can I download XN view for mac so I can resize pics for the gauge? Every time I download a program, I can't open it or Run it. Hate Mac, ptoooo:cry:

It's not rocket surgery
Count me in too...

iMac G3 and G4, plus G4 portable, and a 2nd gen iPod 4GB (I think...) and a shuffle. Haven't looked at the older stuff in a while, but the iMac G4 is the main machine.

CSX Engineer - sorry about your experience, but Mac is fundamentally different from PC - even the newer ones with the "Intel inside". There is a ton of good stuff out there, and every download I have ever tried has worked. iPhoto included in OSX is great for all kinds of photo manipulation, and if you need more than basic changes, Adobe PhotoShop or PhotoShop elements runs great.

Silly me thought it's pretty common knowledge that software made for the Windows OS wouldn't run on a Mac OS.

It's like trying to put Unleaded fuel into a Diesel car. Or trying to run N-scale cars on HO Track. <shrug>

As for a program to resize images, every mac comes with a free one called iphoto. Simply export to the desired size.

Or find an imaging program at macupdate.com

Or just run windows on your Mac if you *really* need to. I have Windows XP installed on my MacBook Pro with Parallels. I use that for programming my r/c car's speed controller with the company's windows only application.

Cheers.

Another Mac user here. Typing on a PowerBook G4 right now. Have an iMac G4 at home that the kids use, and my wife has a MacBook that we bought for her work. We love 'em! :thumb:

My first Mac was a Mac LC that my parents helped me buy when I went away to college. It was an option (and an expensive one) to get a color monitor - otherwise you were stuck with grayscale . My, how things have changed!!

Hey a Mac group, gotta join in this....

I am no expert but I am sure I am more relaxed on my Mac.

We have a regular museum here. An SE30 (top of the range 1989 style, still runs!) A blueberry G3 ibook, 15 inch ibook, G4 ibook and and a MacBook...

Oddly all very small computers which fit or fitted in to our lives and didn't or don't take up valuable table space.

No, but you can download Gimp for free, which is a killer photo editor. There are also Linux and PC versions of it. As for driving a long way to buy "Mac stuff", maybe that has happened to you. But for me, everything I've bought for my Macs - memory, hard drivers, USB adapters, mice, keyboards, monitors, is all the same stuff you'd buy for a PC at Best Buy or any other cheap handy big-box store. Most of that stuff works with Mac. The store personnel are just too clueless to tell you that.

As for me... yes, I'm another Mac user. Although I write software for a living and use lots of PCs at work, at home it's a G4 tower, and a pair of ancient, but still mighty handy, PowerBook G3 Wallstreet laptops.

I'm a Mac user through and through - G4 and iMac at home, new G5 dual process here at work - and I use Windows XP daily here, through Parallels - it works great. You can have Windows run in it's own window on the Mac desktop, or go to full screen mode & it's just like any other PC.
