Lynn, if it helps I have used Uleads Video Studio plus [the plus has fewer bugs among other things]. ANyhow, I edit a lot of home videos and it works great for me. Hope that helps.

hey Naz, this is nuts, you are supposed to be an amatuer so stop it lol.
Is it possible you could up load pics of HOW you made that tunnel entrance? I need four or five and would apprciate any help. Also blueprints and a tutorial would be great as well. Thanks ahead of time:)

There has been a health emergency in my family.....won't be posting anything much for a while......it involves an elderly parent (who, luckily, is as tough as nails)

Steve, so glad to hear that "things" are improving, but I still keep my fingers crossed.:wave:

The hoppers look great behind your steamer. If you didn’t know already, because everyone keeps telling you, I’d say they need a little weathering. But I won’t do that.:mrgreen:

Kurt, my good friend, I thank you and Everyone else for your thoughts at this time:thumb:.............Those hoppers will be weathered, but I just had to take some pics as soon as I got them on the layout:eek:ops::winker:

will try and get something done soon if I am able.

Finally had a day to do some modeling...

Because the office area on the new mine is on the opposite side, some excavation is needed to make it fit:
photos171.jpg

I cut out the sloped area up to the track ballast:
photos181.jpg

I decided to make a wood retaining wall. It is being made from wooden coffee stirers and some 3/32 x 3/32 square stock I had laying around. I glued the planks to very thin cardboard to hold it all together....so far so good:
photos184.jpg

I finished gluing the final sections and now I need to square up the landscape with plaster and, of course, stain the wood.
Making the retaining wall has been a very easy project, so far, although it is rather time consuming (but fun!)

I also managed to paint the "cement" footings on the mine:

Hopefully, I'll get some more done soon:eek:ops:

Take care:wave:

Steve:wav: , your retaining wall is really looking GREAT!!!:thumb::thumb: NICE JOB on the footers too!:winki::mrgreen: this project is really coming out SLAP FANTASTIC!!!:thumb: , TONS of GREAT details, this has to be your GREATEST job yet!, cant wait to see the finished product:winki::mrgreen: .

Looking great! You can always use spare rail as vertical reinforcement for that wall...the prototype did also. How are you planning on working the footings for the mine into the ground?

Deano, my friend...you are way too kind! (but that doesn't mean you have to stop):winker::gaptooth:

Josh...Thank you buddy!:thumb:

Kurt:
Good choice to build a wood retaining wall. Hope your mine is running when I check in the next time in two weeks :wave:.

Don't you bet on it!:winker::gaptooth:

Thank you:thumb:........you know I've seen pics of spare rail used on retaining walls but I didn't think of it until you mentioned it. That would add interest (perhaps on my next retaining wall).
As for working the footings into the ground...I removed the cinder ballast, where needed, with some warm water and a putty knife (see second pic).

I've been moving right along on the wall...

Used an India ink wash on the wood:

That's as far as I've gotten for now.....

Steve:wav: , the retaining wall is built SLAP FANTASTIC!!!:thumb: , i REALLY LIKE the gaps between some of the wood:winki::thumb: . just a thought, if the mine has been there any amount of time, and as close as it is to the retaining wall, i think the wall would be much more weathered/dirtier:winki: , personally, i would ink wash it 1-3 more times:eeki: , hey, coal dust collects on all the areas around the mine:winki: ....just a thought:119: .
LOOKING GREAT!!!:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Deano....first of all, thank you for your kind remarks:thumb:

I look at the pics and I TOTALLY agree with your suggestion....but I'm having an exposure problem with my camera. See the mountains in the background? They are not nearly that dark in person and the wall is not nearly that light. I could darken it for pics but then it would be way too dark in real life.....I need to experiment with the camera some more:curse:

I can always darken it in place if I need to later. Keep the suggestions coming...that's the best part of this thread (for me) I need constructive criticism and suggestions like yours:thumb::winker:

I put the mine in place just to get an idea of what it will look like....I think that even though quite a bit of the wall is hidden, it adds interest and breaks up the "rock everywhere" feeling. We are all focusing on the wall now, but down the line, it will blend into the background and will just be another thing that pulls it all together....hopefully:winker:

WOW!!!:eeki::eeki::eeki: REALLY LOOKING AWESOME STEVE!!!:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Hey, i FULLY retract my suggestion after reading your last post, i FULLY understand:winki: . i have had the same problem with weathering cars, they look good enough in person, but in pics a lot doesn't show up:frowns: , so i end up overdoing them just so you can see they are weathered in pics...:eek:ops: .
