hello all---hey deano, any idea what used to haul those heavy coal trains on the EG&E before your u-boats???
the cn used to run some big power on this division as well---a recent photo collection shows some of cn's 2-10-2's which were frequent visitors---here's a few shots of cn's "big boys"---hope you enjoy

hi deano---thanks for responding and your kind remarks---in terms of tractive effort, the 2-10-2's were the biggest steam locomotives on the canadian national---in total, the cn had 93 locomotives with the 2-10-2 wheel arrangement.classified in the "T"series, there were 4 sub-classes (t-1-a/b/c,t-2-a,t-3-a(ex boston and albany light usra)and t-4a/b---the 4100 was the heaviest of the lot and had a tractive effort of 80%---#4323 was a t-4-b with a tractive effort of 62%,and yes,it is the latest addition to the roster thanks to a lead provided by doctor wayne---the pictures of this locomotive were of her maiden run taken at doctor waynes last wednesday
glad to hear from you again, just think of all the new diesels you can buy with all the earnings from those 12 hour shifts---nutbar

excellent question triplex---in terms of engine weight (minus tender),the 4100's are still the biggest at 409240 lbs, total weight with tender 655040 lbs.
surprisingly,the s-4-b mikes(3800's) come second---399400 lbs. for the engine,total weight with tender 618400 lbs.
the engine weight of the northerns (u-2's) was 379000 lbs,but total engine weight with the tender was 650500 lbs
if anyone has further info.,i would appreciate your comments---thanks,nutbar

hello all---the cn ran many of it's locomotives on the EG&E and found that some were better suited than others to operate on this division---an example was the t-4-a/b series 2-10-2's.even though the 4323 was very popular with crews and especially rail-fans,the booster equipped 4300 was even better ---as a result, the 4323 was transferred to western canada where she served the rest of her career---on the other hand, the 4300 proved so successful that she remained in the east and was very often found on the rails of Doctor Wayne's railroad---here's a couple of shots of 4300 at her home terminal---i'm looking through my photo collection to find some pictures of her in service on the EG&E that i'll post later

Canada, eh?
Dean, since mister nutbar is currently at work (gotta pay for the trains,eh?), I looked up the info in Clegg & Corley's "Canadian National Steam Power".
The 4100 to 4104 2-10-2s were built in September and October of 1924, at the Canadian Locomotive Company, in Kingston, Ontario. CLC was at one time, during the early diesel era, affiliated with Baldwin, but this arrangement didn't work out too well. CLC later became the Canadian licensee of Fairbanks-Morse and built C-Liners and Trainmasters for both CNR and CPR, so there's a roundabout connection to Beloit. No wonder you like the 4100 the best of nutbar's 2-10-2s!!

hi doc---thanks for filling in while i was grinding it out today---deano,there are currently three 2-10-2's on the roster:t-2-a #4100,t-4-a #4300,and t-3-a #4193 which is undergoing some major rebuilding at doctor's waynes shops.
t-4-b #4323 was on the roster for a trial run but was recently returned to the LHS---i wish i could have kept both, but when the 4300 became available at the same time,i had to pick one or the other,so i chose the 4300 primarily for the different pilot which is more prototypical of cn's eastern locomotives

hi deano---thanks for your support and recommendations---i know how much you like those vanderbilt tenders,so i've tried a little experiment by switching tenders (call it modeller's licence)---even though the 4300 never did have this type of tender,i think it looks pretty good, sorry if i've offended any cn affectionados

hi deano---thanks for responding and the compliments, much appreciated---nothing has changed on the 4300,i'm sure its Wayne's layout that helps bring out the features of all my locomotives whenever i get an opportunity for a photo session on the EG&E---we got together last night for a photo shoot and the 4300 had it's first true run---it was a great night as you can imagine---together we took over 150 shots ---luckily i have the rest of the week off so i was able to upload the pictures as soon as i got home from wayne's,so here's a few "hot off the press"---btw,i posted a few more pictures in the gallery---thanks again, keep those uncle pete pictures coming and give my regards to your dad---nutbar
