Morning all. Prayers for Revono PPR and family. Most of our farmers have Fed. Crop Ins. Even this drought will get them some payback. Thumbsup, hope you don't wiggle too much. Here is a history lesson sent me this AM.

History Lesson
Do you know what happened this week back in 1850, in California?

California became a state.

The State had no electricity. The State had no money.
Almost everyone spoke Spanish.
There were gunfights in the streets.

Basically, it was just like California today, except the women had real
boobs and the men didn't hold hands.

sign1

Hot and humid here. Soundboard time after a cup of coffee. Later

Soundboard got delayed by Town phone calls. Mowed grass and thunder and lightning was zinging overhead as I went into the lawnmower garage. Poured for a few minutes. Then sun and heat and humidity. Got set up and sawed the three sections of soundboard before it came again. Got them down and tools up as lightning and thunder again. No rain just lots of zapping around. Power dropped twice. Still not rain. Thundering hard now but sun is shinning bright. Did get .15 inches the first time.

My rules for Celetex Soundstop:
Celetex Soundstop is light weight. Is dusty but not bad after it is handled some. Can be cut with utility knife [I have cut it with my lockblade knife]. Saw with fine tooth saw [I used jig saw instead of table saw as saws easy]. Turn sheet upside down from side you want up [due to ragged edges]. Seal with latex paint and it will get harder and no dust. I used the "printed label" side up. Will hold deck screws. Going to use small drywall screws for track. Do not paint as I did before installing. Paint makes it "curl" up some. Unpainted, will flatten [humidity wiil make it curl slightly] and glue down easier [half of my sheets are unpainted and work better]. Put screws into only the sheets of Soundstop [not into the hard wood below]. Paint will make a difference once installed. I highly recommend this product. Solid but not too hard. $9 to $10 a sheet.

Good Evening,

Renovo PRR, Sorry to hear about the nasty weather at the farm. Hope it is not as bad as it sounded. I guess you should be home by now or very soon. Let us know how it looks when you get time. Hope your trip to Barry's was worth while.

The Williams A-B-A that I converted to TMCC has died. When powered up all I can get are headlights and couplers. No sounds or motion. To late this evening to start tearing it apart so will wait till I have a couple of hours to try to trouble shoot it.

Have plenty of engines to run so not a big deal.

Chief, I liked the history lesson. So what is the status of the Sound Board Project? Half way yet?

Went to Circus Days at the PA RR Museum yesterday with daughter and 3 grandkids. Very nice display. Here is a sample.

I was very happy to finally get home earlier today. The first thing I noticed were several downed trees and branches all over the place. It doesn’t appear that there was a tornado but the home weather station did record wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. The rain gauge was setting at just over 4 and ½ inches for the past 24 hours.

I’m very happy to report no serious structure damage just some barn doors that need to be put back on the barn and some loose tin on the roof. Unfortunately the sweet corn is flat and I doubt it will recover. The good note is that the field corn made it through the storm. The power made it back on this around 8AM. The worse part was not being home and feeling helpless as my family road out the strong storm.

I spoke to some neighbors and they did say the dark cloud was massive and hung low over the ground. Some even called it Armageddon. However except for the lost of the sweet corn and some cleaning up to do everything made it through the storm. I don’t insure the sweet corn so while the market value is large the actual cost of the loss is small. That will greatly reduce the cash flow this winter but when you farm that is life and you learn to make do. Those that were flooded suffered worse than we did.

Now I had two choices tonight. The first was to crank up the chain saw and start cleaning up. The second was to say the heck with it and head to Homer City. We went to Jim’s up in Homer City to see the big shots from MTH. I saw the Coors train in operation and bought some more 100-ton Hoppers. Tomorrow I will start rebuilding barn doors and cutting trees. The corn won’t be a total loss we will find a way to feed what we can to the beef cattle.

Morning all. Did get .2 of rain yesterday. As usual, everyone around us got lots. With the .35 Thursday PM = .55. We'll take that too. Will not hve to water today. On the way to Wilmington NC to Youngest's. Wife there. About a two hour drive to the coast. Did get all of the right side of the layout with Soundstop and painted. Have a great day. RevonoPPR, glad not as much damage as you thought earlier.

Good afternoon,

Renovo PRR, That news is good to hear. It could have been a lot worse. To bad about the corn, I know you were looking forward to that harvest.

Chief, Have a nice trip to the daughters.

Jeffrey, That breakfast looks good, but it wouldn't be good for me.

Take care,

Morning all. Got in at 12:30 AM after 2 hour drive home from Wilmington. Took forever to go yesterday AM as all the whole Yankee nation was on I 40 going to OUR beaches. Yanks, get our own beaches. :curse: That is, or don't stay in the left lane when you are the slowest vehicle on the interstate. wall1

Slow start this AM. Eyes do not want to open. Did wake up to the smell of fried country ham. Now where are the biscuits, grits and red eye gravy?

Man that breakfast looks good today.
Well its another hot one on the KJR. The yellow jackets are getting bad. had them buzzing around the passenger train yesterday so I just got back from locating the nests. The build right under the ties, then have the nerve to get mad when we run over the ties. Found 4 nests in less than an eight of a mile. I'll go up after dark tonight and put the spay to them. Don't like having the passengers stung.

Evening. Got track back down on right side of layout with Soundstop [by Celetex]. Works great. Used some small course threaded drywall screws to hold track. Holds screws fine. Now got track ready to take up on left side of layout. Got Town stuff to do tomorrow so no trains. Hope to complete left side Tuesday. Early flight to Miami Wed. Real early flight out of Miami on Thursday through Charlotte [yes come back to NC] to Montgomery AL for Bass Pro Shops Grand Opening in Prattvile. Not home until Sunday night. Suppose to hook up with O gauge buddy in Miami. Several O gaugers in Prattvile. Found one MTH switch machine was bad on one of my switches. The magnet that locks it to the switch had carbonized. Yes, just crumbling into a fine dust. MTH quality. :curse: Good night.
