Mikey: last year we were taking some friends to downtown Toronto. There's one little sign "407 one lane 427 to Yonge Street", but that's fine because 427 is a big highway and we're going down it.
Just after we pass the last exit before 427, we go around a curve and there's a 3-lane-wide tailback, which we sit in for a half hour or more.
Turns out the single lane starts just before the ramps at 427.
This story reminds me of the short time that we lived in Houston. I can remember they would place these "construction ahead" signs after an off ramp when it's too late to exit the freeway. I remember spending one entire lunch hour waiting to make it to the next off ramp so I could turn around and go back to work.:cry: I also noticed there that it wasn't uncommon for people to make their own off ramps. If there was a backup in traffic and someone found a place they could exit, even if there was only grass and a small fence, they'd do it. I never had the nerve to follow them, but I sometimes wished I had.

There are others with greater complaints that keep thier own council.

Good Morning All.
There isn't much to report from the land of Buckeyes other then its suppose to be in the 90's with high humidity so I shall stay under the good old AC and watch some railroad videos.Needless to say no walk this morning besides NS isn't to busy anyway.

I shall have a bottle of water and look over the forum.

Watch the heat exposure and stay cool.

Looks like I'm going to see the doc tomorrow. I've got a rash covering me quick! I read the side effect warning for the pain killer they have me on and it says that a rash is a sign of a very serious allergic reaction.

Good evening,

All the best to Gil and Jeffrey.

It got up to 96 today. Ready for a break in the heat. E-town Fair starts on the 18th and I have grilling duty on the 20th and 21st at our church food stand. Don't need all this heat fpr that.

Chief, The grandsons will be taking Steers, Hogs & Goats to 4-H roundup on Saturday and to the Fair the week after next. Will post some pics later.

Take care,

Good morning.

I'm definately going back to the doctors office today. This rash is really getting out of hand. One of the serious side effects of the pain killer he put me on is a rash, so that's most likely the cause.

Sorry I did not get to post this AM. Town meetings [including lunch] until 3PM. Thought I would be back bofore then. No soundboard today. 104 on the inside/outside thermometer and it is on north side under over hang in shaded side of house. All you do is walk out and you get wet [and not raining]. Tomorrow. Wife will be gone to Yongest's tonight. MIGHT do some tonight but doubt it. Might see if I can shoot beavers that have moved into my pond. Stay cool and have a good one.

Well the first series of phone calls and reports started about 8:30am and it ended with "We are going to the basement." This was a hard thing for me to hear since I am 3hours away from home.

I don't have a clear picture of what took place in my small section of Somerset County but my family was setting on the porch trying to cool off since a round of thunderstorms had taken the power grid down. Then a very strange calm was followed by very low dark clouds and what appeared to be a funnel cloud bearing down on the barn.

Since it is dark I don't have a clear picture if any buildings suffered any damage. I do know the corn fields took a direct hit and the damage is bad with over 5 acres of sweet corn flatten. Since the field corn goes over the hill they are not sure how much was damage.

Since I'm not home my family is making it through the night with battery lanterns. They don't know how to turn on the emergency generators and power is not expected to be restored until late Friday.

So it will be a long night for my safely in hotel and my family sitting in near dark at the farm. Since we have a well water is now a precious commodity. No power No water. However being use to bad winter storms we do keep a emergency stock pile, enough to use for limited cooking and flushing toilets for at least three days.

My only real concern is that the freezers can hold out until I get home or the power is restored. I can't place a true figure on the loss in crops but if in fact the sweet corn is as bad as I think the loss will be in the thousands of dollars since it was not ready to harvest yet.

While I can't confirm a tornado my family states 100% there was a funnel cloud and I doubt they will sleep much tonight. I do have limited contact with cell phone but everything else is out of service.

I know we got hit with a pretty good storm in Lancaster at around 7:00pm while I was at dinner. I drove to E-town so I could go to Barry's Train Store but spent most of my time on the cell phone with the family and a few friends.

I doubt I will get much sleep either but since it appears no one is hurt and the house still has a roof I'm not going to head out for home tonight. I just hope the daylight doesn't bring any damage to the barn and outbuildings. I can live with damage to the crops but my barn is filled with much needed hay for the rest of the fall and winter. Needless to say the hot and dry summer had already damaged the output of the cash crops and if they suffered worse wind damage it might be a total loss that will take a few years to recover from.

I wish everyone the best and if your in the way of a storm god bless you all because my farm family will make it through the tough times with some love. Besides everyone is safe in my family though I know they don't want to experience another evening like tonight.
