hey yall,i don't have much to do out here so i thought id take a whack at designing my "dream layout".I'm in no hurry but was wondering if someone has or can help me find track diagrams or pictures of these places along the C&O.id like to know a place to get them free or cheap since, well I'm not building it yet and i figured just designing it wouldn't need any cash.but i can pay for anyone who has them or a place they know of that sells them.I can take either things through mail or digital format.the COHS has some but not all of the ones i need.so here they are: Presque isle Pier ,Newport news at Hampton roads harbor ,Russel,KY ,Clifton forge ,and Marshalling yards such as: Cane fork ,Danville ,Paintsville and martin.and finally a map of the big sandy and coal river coal fields.thanks for any help and PM me if you have either an original or a copy of one of the above for sale.TIA.--josh

Try looking at topographic maps. Many of those have not been updated in the last 20-30 years so they may show tracks that have since been removed.

I like topozone.com. I did a search for "Presque Isle" and found this image (you wanted Presque Isle, OH right?):

Lots of track to model there!

Josh,

No, I am not a member at the topozone site. The image I included in my last post was just a screen capture.

how do you do a scren capture scott?--josh

I'm using a Mac and either use the keyboard shortcut command-shift-4 (all keys pressed at the same time) or use a program called Grab that came on the computer. Both methods will let you select just the part of the screen you want (there are also ways to capture the entire screen). If you're not using a Mac, hopefully someone else can tell you how to do a screen capture.

Good luck!

RailfanDepot on eBay had a complete C&O track chart from the era you're looking for not too long ago. Your best bet now would be to look for an original track chart elsewhere on the giant auction site or at local trains shows. (I know there's one coming up in two weeks in Cincinnati.) There's no telling when those topo maps were created and how accurate they were even when current.

thanks RO that was quite useful.and i totally forgot about the train show in two weeks! i'm marking it on y calendar now.but im pretty sure the USGS has very reliable info since well, thats what they do.and besides im just goingto model a small part of the site, not much else besides the holding yard and a few of the loading tipples and the hullet unloaders.thanks.--josh
