I've always wanted one of these,especially the CP one,but this will do.I'm actually thinking about selling it to get my DM&IR SD40-3 #418 project going.

They're great looking engines for sure!I know I have mentioned I'm not a huge UP fan,but apparently I'm a fan of huge UP engines:thumb:.

One thing,this engine came with a Digitrax DN143IP decoder and I'm told that it is not dual mode.I wasn't planning on going DCC for awhile so I wouldn't be able to use it unless I take it out and I don't want to mess with the shell to take it out.

I guess I should hang onto it as it's a wonderful engine and I have to go DCC sometime I guess.

Are you sure yours is the older run?They don't even have mine on their site,but they have the #8242 one on it.

I'll have to be honest Deano,I think mine looks better then yourssign1.Just kidding around you know:thumb:.

I'm probably going to get a Loksound decoder to put into my Kato Mid-production BN SD40-2 first,then I'll get one for the SD90/43.

Perhaps mine is not older then yours:confused: , its about 4yrs old, and DID NOT have a decoder in it, and since you mentioned yours came with a decoder in it, i figured yours was newer, Kato has only recently put decoders in their engines:winki: .

Nice engine!I notice that it has windshield wipers,did you add them yourself or did it come with them?I'm asking because I never noticed any N-Scale engine with them.

Deano,I have a question for you.My son put my SD90/43 on my track to play with it without realizing that the decoder isn't dual mode,do you think that could harm the motor or is the worst that could happen is that the decoder would fry?He only applied a little bit of power before I caught him and stopped him from doing anymore damage.

nscaler711, WOW!!!:eeki: FANTASTIC ENGINE!!!:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Chris, i HIGHLY DOUBT the motor is hurt:winki: , at the worst your decoder could be smoked:eeki: , but that would be it, if it was run long more damage would have been done, but from what you said, i am sure the motor is fine:thumb: . my guess is your decoder is fine too:winki:, let me know what happens.

Mine is the version that is sold by EMD.....not GM EMD those are the older runs of the SD70M.....that is why a SD90/43MAC has a simillar nose to what i have
EMD: SD70M
i understand that this is a SD70M-2. The SD70M was discontinued from their product line a few years ago this is the most recent locomotive in EMD's production.

This confuses a great deal of people.

The SD70M and SD70MAC from their early 90s introduction to the early 2000s had flat radiators, like 4569 and 4674. These are SD70Ms; UP has no SD70MACs. Then they got slightly flared radiators, like 4841. UP has many flared SD70Ms; flared SD70MACs are much less common, only found on CSX and Alaska Railroad. For the past few years, they have been replaced by the SD70M-2 and SD70ACe. Despite the mismatched designations, these are the DC and AC versions of the same engine. They look somewhat like SD90s on SD70 frames. UP has SD70ACes, and none of the less common SD70M-2.
