I wonder if the Illinois Railway Museum in Union would have any interest in these locos?

Illinois Railway Museum

Per their website, they are the largest railway museum, which might indicate their capacity to attain these old RI diesels.

On a side note, I went to this railway museum 2 years ago with the wife and kids for a "day out with Thomas". It was pretty chaotic - there were kids everywhere, and I told my wife that I would like to go back on a "non-Thomas" day to explore the place. Haven't gotten back yet. Have any other Gaugers ever been there?

A posting from the RITS (Rock Island Technical Society) list:

The listing of the units came as a bit of a surprise, so we did not establish a budget for them. If terms can be worked out with the owners, Iowa Northern has an interest in purchasing these units through our sister company, Hawkeye Express, LLC and working toward restoring them to operating condition.

This would be great news for RI fans and Iowans, if it can be done!
That would be cool as well.
It would be nice to see them stay at Midland but getting them operational would be first priority regardless of who does the restoration.
