Layout Pre planning

Hi all,
Well It's time from me to start the "pre planning" process of my N scale empire.
My first question is does anyone see a problem with running the bench work in front of a window.

Hi Joe:wave:
The only problem I have with blocking a window is if it is needed as an escape route in case of fire or such. I blocked a window with my bench work, but the room exlt door is right next to the house front door, so I feel reasonably safe.

Hey Loren,

Good Point, there are 2 window in the room, so maybe it won't be an issue. But something I should keep in mind.

Thanks for the reply,
Joe

If safety is a potential issue, you could also make the benchwork in front of the window removable, like you might do for an entry doorway. A bridge? Or make the benchwork narrow enough that it would be easy to climb over. Maybe putting a step-stool nearby to give you a boost to get through the window. I know this is kind of "stream of consciousness", but the type of window would make a difference, too -- crank style vs. sliding, double-hung, etc. I wonder how many people even think of this issue when they block a window?

riverotter,

Thanks for you input. Again some good points. At the moment I'm leaning toward just placing the bench work in front of the window. I'm thinking it won't be a issue because the door to the room is on the other side of the room and there is another window.

Now to take some measurements and do a materials list. Wow, then get started:mrgreen: Can't wait, sign1

Same here. I'm blocking a window with benchwork and backdrops but my office is a doubled door and 3 feet from the front door.

Only thing I would wanna open the window for is ventilation when painting or something.

That was one just with the window showing, here's what they currently look like to make you think some more ;)

I really love the idea of a shelf layout. I get a lot of room to play with a double deck layout, but I also still have a full size office to use that's open. That was a huge plus on getting the Wife to let me do another layout in the new house (I wasn't "wasting" a room) :)
