Do We Need Road Specific Forums?

I figured it was enough to be divided by scale but since the UP, BNSF, and CSX guys all have their own threads perhaps we should set up a forum for each road name?

Well, there are at least two ways of looking at road-specific threads. If you're interested in a particular road, it's nice to have a single source for information and pictures.
However, I think you may be cutting down your potential viewing audience, as those with a main interest in a different road may not even bother to take a look. Also, since the prototype roads function is an environment of interchange, you can sometimes get a too parochial view of railroading if you limit the thread to a single road - we all need to know what the other railroads are doing to get an accurate picture of what to model.
As for separate Forums for each road, I think that that'll divide us up too much. Just because I model an era 40-or-so years prior to BNSF or CSX doesn't mean that I don't like running across pictures or info pertaining to these roads, but I'm not likely to go to a specific thread to seek it out. I think that we've got a good balance of Forums - not too general, but also not too specific.

As much as I would like to see road specific forums I would have to agree with Wayne about it being a limiting factor as far as participation from the other members.

What I think might work would be a forum specifically for the prototype and proto freelancers where you could start your own thread about modeling your favorite prototype railroad.I suspect though that the main problem with this would be that once a thread was started for a particular railroad there would not be another one started but that everyone would post to the thread allready started on their favorite prototype.

Am I making any sence here?Remember I'm, just a freelancer with a prototype bent on my connecting railroads.

Anybody else want to weigh in on this?

"if" we wanted to start "Roadnamed Specific" forums.. I would suggest "sub forums" off of "The Real Thing USA"

Even if we don't start new forums, we could (And possibly Should) move all the "Name Specific" threads there....

another suggestion --- How about

The Real Thing - Fallen Flags

This of course, would end up in between The Real Thing - USA and The Real Thing - Canada

You mean that some UP person might place a UP pic in your CSX thread??? :D :D :D Yeah - I can see that happening...

How about "The Real Thing-Modeling North America's Railroads "

and

" The Real Thing-Modeling North America's Fallen Flags"

That covers the whole place.

How about Just a Fallen Flags forum in the Real Thing area and then sub forums for each fallen flag. Then they wouldn't ahve to be divided up between nationalities.

The sub forum for each active road could go under whichever nationality it's based on. IE: CP would be under Real Thing >Canada

Why not secific manufactueer or engine type forums. Then maybe car type forums for kit builders.

We could us e a forum just for structures.

Remember...it's for fun!
Ralph (stick in the mud guy) thinks people can post threads about whatever prototype or model railroads they want in the currently existing forums! :)

So is Mexico.

I think it would be silly to have road specific forums. This is the GENERAL talk, and its not flooded with rivalries between modelers of certain roads. I think if we add different forums, some people might take it a little personal and begin to bash the next line (especially UP). So lets stay united and talk about all of them here

Agree, too many roads, too many forums that need to be watched, and pretty soon we'll have to assign shifts to the moderators because the office will get way too crowded.stooges8stooges8 Remember, we only have four chairs, and the cooler chest is sitting on one of them.:roll:tooth1
