I would presume that this sort of thing is covered by NAFTA..No..?? I don't think there can be that much difference in US and Canadian standards. I used to work in a steel foundry in Mexico, and we exported a LOT of pressure vessels (valves and that sort of thing..) to both the US and Canada. Never had a problem in either country.
Go for it..!!

I bought mine in London, UK while traveling to Saudi Arabia. Toy shop on Reagance Street if I remember correctly. Genuine British made. Don't know how the shipping costs to Canada would be.

But don't forget we are speaking about toys here.
From
Industry Guide to Canadian Safety Requirements for Children's Toys and Related Products, 2006:

Toy steam engine boilers must be equipped with an appropriate safety valve and they must be able to withstand pressures of at least three times the operating pressure of the boiler in order to protect against accidental rupturing.

But as you say, I'll go for it. I had one when I was a kid 55 years ago and it was given to me by my uncle who received it as a present when he was 5 years old too.
Childhood memories ... priceless.

I have purchased a few from the US through Ebay and stores and never had any problem getting them into Canada. Also bought one from a ebay seller in Great Britain. Paid too much money for it but it got here with no issues. As a fellow toy steamer fan i hope you find one and enjoy many hours with it.

If you look in Udisco's menu under "general" then click on Wilesco you will see they are well stocked in steam engines and related hardware..It aint cheap but they may have what you are looking for...

Merci, Thanks a lot for the information jambo101.
I know Udisco and to my wife despair I visit their huge hobby warehouse several times a year because they have a decent N scale inventory. I visit their website too but never looked at the "general" sections because I thought it was only about dollhouses and stuff like that :)
I already selected the steam engine I'll buy from them.
I really feel like a kid in a candy store every time I go to the Udisco 2 stories warehouse.

Do you buy from Udisco too ?
