Female Modelers?

I was wondering how many lady's there are in the hobby because I remember when I was Younger (12) there seemed to be a lot of girls that seemed more interested in the hobby than boys ( not sure if this was a change in father interaction or just an infatuation with trains ). so I was wondering what the ratio of women in the hobby was.

I never seen this subject brought before but I have always' wonder' ed about it.

My wife likes the trains.... she likes the painting part and the crafty stuff, but I think thats the extentent. I cant wait to get her to run a train. I think she will enjoy it.

My wife is one of those who "puts up with it," but she can also get interested in what I'm doing from time to time.

At the last train show I was at, there were at least a dozen women who attended by themselves. One of them spent $400.00 + for a set of HO Rapido Turbo trains. And one purchased a Jl Innovative kit from me!
So there must be more out there than you would notice from the forums.

I've met very few women in the hobby, but the ones I met were great modelers.

i was just going to ask a similar quesion...it seems to me I was in the LHS a few months ago and there was a woman in there buying stuff. But my questions would be why? Is this entirely a cultural thing, or is there something genetic that says women won't like trains? You don't see many men stitching quilts, either.

I'm all for Women being in the hobby and most of the Architectural reproductions made for jobsite's are made by women ( they are more meticulous and organized ), so I could only wonder what a model RailRoad would look like if one of them made a model.

Maybe that's the reason, there pushed out of it from social sexist retard ness :evil:

I always wanted to be an engineer on a train, you never see women in the cab. Why is that?

I did notice on our last flight that we had an all male attendent crew and once we even had a female pilot.

When I took the GO train to Toronto last month, there was an "engineeress" running the train for one of the trips (I made four trips that day). That trip was the fastest, although a lot of that could be due to track conditions and other traffic. She was an accomplished throttle artiste, though, with very smooth stops and starts, and her enunciation, calling out stations stops, was by far the best that I heard that day.
A few years back, Trains magazine ran a feature on female engineers, which are not as uncommon as you might think.
