We are being upgraded (see above message from Peter)

Borrowed this from Sumpter 250 cause he says it so nicely.:D

We are beginning a major upgrade of the site. there is the possibility that there may be some problems, after the upgrade is completed. Changes in code, may cause some things to become "missing", and some links may have to be re-established by the members who posted them.
There is a "group" site where information, and back up communication (if needed) will be available to help resolve any issues that occur. We have a Gauge Google Group. Those that haven't signed up yet should. This may be our only means of communication sometimes if the forum is down or being serviced or updated. Please, if you haven't registered for the Gauge Google group, now is the time to do it. Otherwise you may not know what's going on. No one says we'll know, but this way you at least stand a chance.

Here's the link: http://groups.google.com/group/The-Gauge

Bear with us, Your administrators, and moderators, will be working as quickly as possible to get everything back up and running....(yes, even more smoothly) with the new system.
There is a possibility that links to other gauge posts may not work after the upgrade. If you have used those types of links in your posts, you may want to create "a road map", or at least a "trail of breadcrumbs", to help you restore any lost information.
We are trying to make this as painless as possible, but I can't promise that there won't be a "twinge" here or there along the way

Visit site
Catt, appreciate the heads up. I will be offline for at least the next week on business travel so if I'm missing don't take it personally.

If Peter (behind the curtain) is reading this, thanks for all that you do. As you know from my handle I'm a "double dipper" on your boards (one of which has nothing to do with model trains).

It will be interesting to see if this message is posted. I replied to another thread earlier today, but the message did not appear. So I replied again, still no post. A few hours later, both posts appeared, so I deleted one of them as a duplicate. Both posts promptly disappeared. So, I made a new post, and that one has never appeared, even hours later. So, if this message is received, what the heck is going on???

Well this is all very odd. I see that my post has appeared here (right away, in fact), so I posted to the other thread again, and nothing has appeared. To make matters even stranger, the thread (which is here: http://forum.zealot.com/t117400/ ) shows two pages of replies, but when I click on page two, it always returns me to page one.

Methinks serious gremlins are afoot...

Thanks for the feedback David. As you can see, you've signed on during a transitional time for us. I sure hope you'll hang in there, this is a really great group of people and I'm sure you'll enjoy being a part of this great community. :)

Well, my post under "You gotta see this!" appeared yesterday evening, then this morning promptly vanished again. I guess I'm jinxed.

Not sure what you mean, I see two posts from you in that thread.

Well, something very, very strange is going on. When I posted my previous comment on this thread, there were no posts from me in the other thread. Having just checked again, now there are three! It didn't matter if I refreshed my screen, cleared cache, cookies, history, etc.--the messages just seemed to appear and disappear like ghosts over the course of time.

I hope I've deleted all of the duplicates, and that things will settle down more now. We'll see...

OK, this is getting absurd. I just posted a message on the "What has everyone done this weekend?" thread, and it did not appear. I've never seen anything quite like this, except at work, where I'm behind a firewall; right now I'm at home, no firewall, and I have no trouble like this on any other message board (many of which use exactly the same base code as this one). I'm a web developer, and I have no clue what's going on.

Hi David, I see your post to that thread just fine.

Mystery seems to have been solved, as Mr. Day explains:

David,

No, you are not going crazy. We are as you can tell, in the midst of change. We've upgraded the software and with it came a few defaults that we're adjusting as we go along. You got caught in one of them, some new anti-spam measures. Since you signature contained a link, and you had just started posting here, your first few posts went into the moderation queue waiting for one of us to determine if you were a spammer. We had to "approve" your posts, which I did.

Sorry for the inconvenience, you should not see this little quirk happen again since we have changes some of the parameters.
