Hello Peter, I concur with some other members that I liked the old Gauge better. But I don’t want to complain, maybe we only have to get used to the new look.

But as you surely know, there are some problems. Nearly all the links to attachments in the posts lead to the wrong picture now or you get the message that the pic can’t be found when you click on the link. I fear, that problem can’t be fixed. That leads me to another problem. I’d like to repair some of my threads, that means to put the right pics in again (especially in my tutorials). Unfortunately, I cannot do that, because in about 2/3 of my threads there is no "edit" button (I made sure, I am logged in), only the "quote" button is visible. I hope, this problem can be fixed.

BTW, Peter, thank you for The Gauge and all the work you put into it.

I like it so far

Peter:

I like what I see so far. I just noticed the smileys were fixed. How is it going on transferring the gallery?

By the way, I love the blog area. It seems like a great place to keep a running record of what we've been doing. I'm starting to move my layout threads over to a blog.

Transferring the gallery is going to take a loooooooooong time. If I do it manually that is. I tried a bunch last night and was getting each image between one and two minutes. At a minute each, 3,000 images is going to take 50 hours of tedius labor. So, I'm trying to find a way to automate it. Can't be too hard for a decent coder to write me a script that will take the info out of one database and inject it into another. We'll see.

I'm pleased to see you're enjoying the blogs! I put a lot of effort into building it, and wasn't sure if it would be a hit or not.

Yet another mystery. . .

OK, so here is where it get funky. So I have a Macintosh and a PC. All in all, I have 5 different browsers between the two machines. If I go to the main Gauge page (Zealot.com, I should see pictures for The Photo of the day, the contest winner, and the Gauge Emag, right? Here are the results:

Macintosh Firefox 2.xxxx No Pictures
PC Firefox 2.xxxxx No Pictures
PC Internet Explorer 7 No Pictures

Macintosh Safari 2.04 I see pictures

The no picture results, I either see an "X" or nothing. Ain't that funky??? Another bug to add to the ever growing list????

Are we going to get custom user titles back or are we stuck with "Junior Member" "Member" "Senior Member" "Moderator" and "Administrator"

Not really a big deal in the grand sceme of things but I always liked the custom titles people gave themselves.

You got it! Thanks for mentioning it, I overlooked that one. I'm sure there's a dozen things like that I've missed, so keep talking to me. :)

Hi Peter, I noticed that when I reply to a post and then click on new post, it doesn't show up like it used to. I have to go to that forum to find the thread I just replied to. Any one else having that problem?
P.S. the more I check out the New Gauge, the more I like it. Thank You for this great forum.

Loren, I found the same thing. If you want to see the thread you just posted on, you need to go to the "Quick Links" tab at the top, then click on "Today's Posts" when the menu opens up. That will show all the threads, even the ones you have already viewed.

Peter, I come to you with tail between legs. I admit the first day of the change was stressful for me, as my computer skill are pitiful. I resisted the change just out of laziness. My wife pointed out how I was frustrated back in Sept when I joined the old Gauge trying to figure out all the nuances of navigating a forum (replies, posts, pictures etc). She reminded me I am griping about the same stuff this time. Oops.

Now that some of the dust has settled, and my computer literacy has improved, I think I like what's going on. I didn't realize how much of a "one man show (wallet)" this has been for you financially and techn ically. A new respect indeed.

I have only three lingering comments to add to your list - 1) Blue background 2) I see the color-coded buttons on posts by names to indicate online vs offline, I liked the old way to identify current users by the list in the margin of how many members and who they were 3) I know ads are critical to the survival of this forum, but can the ebay ads be moved so I don't feel forced to look at them? Note- my adversion to ebay is a personal thing, my problem not yours

So with time came understanding, thanks to you and your staff for all you do.

You using mysql? I may know how to do this. Drop me a PM if you need some assistance and what you need to have done.

Peter: I think the new "quick reply" box looks a little silly, coming up with a message already in it telling us to click on an icon when we used to just type in the box. However, it's not a serious functional problem.
Is there a way to "mark all threads read"? I found this on another forum, where there's now a long list of threads I didn't read and have no intention of reading (with apologies to all those whose threads I don't read).

Yeah, some of this stuff will take a bit getting use to. Some are features that Peter could change, others are not.

You can mark all thread read by going to the "forums" page right here, then click on "mark all forums read" in the middle of the page. Me, I've bookmarked that as a link.

Thanks Don. I'll try that later.
I was just reading my new posts. I'd finished page 2 of 12 but when I tried for page 3, there was nothing matching my criteria (and I wasn't very fussy).
I think we had problems like this before -- some timeout on the login?

Some of you know me from other places, others only know of my 2-3 helpful(?) posts.

I just wanted to say I think you'll all be happy with these forums once the bugs are worked out.
I have managed my own forums in the past, and it's a chore. Transfering a database to a new program/module/domain is a nightmare. There is an unbelievable amount of work going on behind the scenes, just to keep this place running on a regular basis. Now, you throw in this transfer.... there are probably so many headaches the public doesn't see, non-techies can't even fathom the pain.

In time you'll settle in, and never even remember the place changed. The bugs will be worked out. New features will be implimented.

Mods - Keep doing what you're doing. People fear change, but usually they adjust and welcome it. Thanks for the time and effort you are putting in.

Right now the Gallery is closed for repairs. You don't want to see what it looks like right now. There's lots of work to be done there to restore the pictures and comments, and so far there's only one person that's sorting it all out, and that's Peter....

We'll keep you posted on when it's going to be open again.

Oh, the reason you're getting returned to the Gauge home page is that you are using the old URL. All the URLs and links have changed when we made the changes last week.
