The Building of the Galactic Fleet

Thanks! I think I still messed up pretty good a second time on that front section though. But, I think I can clean it up with a little patience. It won't be my best model I've assembled. I've had some frustrations with it, not from any design flaw, but from my own fumbling fingers. :( I'll keep posting progress pics though.
Chad,
I think it looks great!:Congrats: The artist / builder is ALWAYS their own worst critic.

On some of the sections you are having problems with because you have big fingers (we all do when it comes to this micro stuff) try to use tweezers or a straight paper creaser or a nail with a fine point. It can help curve over those pesky edges (when the glue is drying) that just wont' cooperate any other way. You could also try wetting the area sparingly (I use glue) and then fold over and / or tamp down gently.

I hope this helps you out!

Here is the ragtag fleet so far. The Galactica(2003) & Galactica(TOS) in front. With colonial shuttle, Berserk Battlestar, & Battlestar Pegasus bringing up the rear. Soon to join the journey are the Geminon Traveler & the Celestra. Planning to post some progress pics for those 2 very soon.View attachment 148601View attachment 148602
Wow Chad! Nice fleet! :Bravo: It does look nice with the rest of the fleet.

Looks like the Galactican fleet is trying to get reinforcements from B5! I wonder what those pesky cylons are up to? Any chance that you could have a skirmish of vipers with cylon raiders around some of the ships?;) Just wondering....:triplets:

I like how you displayed your fleet! I will (more than likely) do the same (once I rebuild mine).

:tank:[/QUOTE Thanks! Funny you should mention the cylons. I had recently been thinking I need to pay more attention to them. So, I've been thinking of building the Original series Basestar sometime very soon, & the newer Basestar shortly after. As for a skirmish between Vipers & Raiders, that is another idea I've been toying with.:tank::robot1: Just been trying to figure out the best way to go about it. Maybe putting together about 10 of each of the mini-models. & maybe using painted cotton balls for explosions. I don't know, I'm open to suggestions.:hammerhead:I would like to keep it fairly simple, nothing too crazy........yet. Meditate on this, I will. ;):triplets:

Thanks! I have plans for a space backdrop as the fleet progresses. Just in the upper 2 feet of the wall. & maybe some strategically placed LED lights for effect. But, we'll see. It's hard to find the time to do all that I'd like to do with these models.

Chad,

Hmmm.. maybe orange - reddish cotton balls?;) There's a technique I found on one site where someone used crazy glue on thread to make it stiff. It was used to simulate wire struts on a vintage biplane. Hang some clear / transparent dental floss in lieu of the thread on a door handle (or other support) and spread some crazy glue while the floss is hanging. Once dried cut the floss to the desired length and mount some of the Vipers / Raiders in the configuration you want. It should work to simulate a formation etc.
BTW nice greebling on the Gemini Traveler.:King: Your detailing really stands out. Adding additional details to the details can be tricky, but are worthwhile. See my new post on the Defender for details.

Take care and thanks for sharing your work.:hastalavista:

Chad,

Looking forward to day when you build a Cylon Basestar from the original series. Those Basestars still are far better over the new revised triangular ones. If you find a decent model could you post the link for it? That would be great because I would like to build one as well.

Take care.

such great work, i bet it feels good to see those in your room there! probably saw them hanging there before they were built, eh? ;)

i kind of like the new battlestars. the gill slits in blue energy , sometimes red i think, are cool looking, i like both but i admit it took a little time. dr. who is a series that has survived a lot of changes, and i think that as long as the shows are good, we should embrace the changes. like with Batman, or the joker, its really the entertainment value and quality of the props or show, and we should remain limitless. i had a really hard time with the star trek reboot, and some other things in comic books. and the new land of the lost sat. morning tv show. but really as long as our favorite things keep going, its really just more to enjoy, and if not, keep trying!

Thanks space agent-9! I first saw the complete fleet hanging in a local hobby shop, & shortly after just happened to stumble upon those ships on Stevespaper.com. I heartily agree with you about embracing changes, I was just thinking that in regard to all the new DC movies & TV series as well as Marvel's. The "Multiverse" plot line allows for all kinds of possibilities. My daughter & I have only recently become "whovians":), & we love it. I had the same difficulty as you with the Star Trek reboot, & am currently having the same struggle with the new Star Wars movie. I am a big fan of the SW expanded universe novels, games & comics & wasn't happy at all when they wiped those away in favor of their new canon. There were some awesome stories there, & I think they just pulled these new stories & characters out of somebody's backside. But that's just my opinion, it doesn't count for much, but it's free. ;). But don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the ST reboot as well as the new SW movie, & looking forward to the new stuff too! Thanks again! :)

I like your suggestion of using Crazy Glue with dental floss or thread, I'm definitely going to experiment with it. If you image.jpg haven't seen it yet, check out the 12 page Cylon Basestar PDO download here on Zealot. I think it's on the very last page of the BSG downloads. I'm still trying to figure out how to post links, sorry. -Chad
